I’m on extended mat leave so with no income from work, after paying for essentials I don’t have a lot left for baby clothes.

Any tips where I can get some real bargains?

Usually get some gorgeous bits from supermarkets, but is there anywhere online?

I’ve tried eBay and after postage it looks like you end up paying around £10 after postage for a “bundle” which may only have a few bits and bobs you can actually use or like.

I’ll hit the supermarkets this week but if there is anywhere else it would be great to know Grin

Supermarket sales. Asda/Aldi baby events, Facebook selling sites usually are your best bet, if you can collect from local people you can get huge bundles for under £10, or charity shops if you really have nothing much left to spend?

I’ve done really well from charity shops before actually when she was first born, thank you for reminding me! Think I got next dresses for £1!

Thank you I’ll have a look!

Charity shops. They often have really nice clothes for new babies. I still treasure the unworn cashmere jumper for a six month old that I paid £1 for. You do need to make regular sweeps though.

Try and look out for facebook groups. I'm a member of a local group that shares kids items between mums for free, you just have to arrange collection. Clothes bundles, toys, baby equipment, plus other things, it's been a godsend for many I would imagine.

Children’s centres around here take used baby clothes and if you donate some your baby has grown out of they will offer you any you like from the collection.

Facebook groups, charity shops and also freecycle. We have gotten most of DS's clothes this way, with the addition of clothes from friends whose kids have outgrown them.

Try Freegle. It’s a group where people give all sorts of things away.

Try a Barnardo children's shop. You can search for one here:
www.barnardos.org.uk/shop/shop-search.htm

They are great as the whole shop is edicated to baby/child clothes and equipment. All hung in sizes, types and colour. Maybe a little more expensive than a random charity shop rail but still some great quality stuff at a fraction of new prices and a real time-saver compared to trawling round individual shops.

I'm not sure whether they still exist but I also had some great stuff from NCT second hand sales when my children were young. Probably the cheapest option would be car boot sales. So many baby clothes there (neatly folded at the start, a vast jumble by the end) that the cost is very low.

I have got all of mine from Facebook marketplace. Some seriously nice bits. I picked up two bin bags of beautiful clothes yesterday for £20. It's saved me so much

Have a look online to see if there's is any clearance places near you, local to me is a matalan clearance and argos (who also sell TU) clearance. Can pick up some brilliant bargains, especially if you time it to them having a sale on (find out by following their fb pages)

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 27/02/2019 10:59

Car boots are your best bet, and if you are looking to buy lots sellers will often discount them.

When dd2 was born I bought all her first years worth of clothes, some toys and bedding for £10. I had 2 bin liners full of next sleepsuits etc which I then sold on after to buy the next lot.

Look out for baby and child sales, summer fairs at schools, church fairs. I've got great bargains from these. My dd got a massive box of happyland as a birthday present that cost me £5, RRP would have been £100s.

I also buy my clothes second hand, I like having a new outfit for nights out, charity shops are great. I got a beautiful dress and sparkly cardigan for £3 in total.

Charity shops, NCT nearly new sales or similar, I've found eBay good for specific things (so a jacket for example) rather than just bundles.

Rosebud1302 · 27/02/2019 11:09

Definitely local Facebook mum groups or buying/selling groups. I have bought massive bags of really good quality well known brand clothes often for the price of two new outfits in supermarkets.
