2yo and 4yo trip to London

I hope this is OK to post in here but is it a good or a crazy idea to take a 2yo and a 4yo on a day trip to London? I'm thinking a walk past Buckingham Palace, a trip in an open top bus and maybe a look around the natural history museum. I live miles away but we're visiting relatives in the home counties just after Easter and I thought it might be a good opportunity to show them the capital. We're travelling past the west side of London, I know it's not a great idea to drive into Central London so where would we be best to ditch the car and catch a train in? Any advice much appreciated! Real country bumpkin here!

In that case maybe Twickenham would be a good place to find parking and get the train to Waterloo...

Where to park does depend into a you feel about driving inside the M25 (it really is fine - just take it slowly).

If you don't want to, then Slough or St Albans itself have fast trains.

If you feel able to go in a bit further in, Kew Museum of water and steam is fantastic. And from there, you could take a train from Kew Bridge 30mins to Waterloo and visit the South Bank: see the river, the houses of parliament, maybe go on the eye, great atmosphere and lots of buskers to see, good playground at Jubilee gardens, carousel, aquarium if it's rainy, see whether there's anything on at the Southbank centre... it's fab Grin

I agree the transport museum is better.
Another great one is the Postal museum - very interactive and they have a play space for young children that’s great fun.
You could go to Coram’s Fields after - it’s a great park that’s nearby.
They’re central, near Russell Sq tube.

One alternative if you are coming from South West is just to do Windsor Duck Tour www.windsorducktours.co.uk/about-windsor-duck-tours/

It does a boat trip on river and goes on land including seeing Windsor Castle. You can park in Windsor, might be on pricey side can't remember.

If you go into Central London mine loved a boat trip down the river at that age and there's food on board.

If you park in Richmond, there is a large car park on the A316, less than 5 min walk to the train station where it’s 20 mins to Waterloo.
