Bedtime milk cup for three year old?

So we have a just turned three year old who still has a bedtime milk bottle. We brush her teeth after, but the time has no doubt come to get rid of the bottle. I want to replace the bottle with a specific cup. I was thinking a proper mug (an unbreakable one) but maybe this is a bit grown up for bedtime. She drinks from open cups during the day and isn’t so keen on covered beakers, but she is used to drinking it from a bottle so it may be too big a step and I can envisage spillages. All the silly cups I can see seem very much geared towards much smaller children learning to use cups.

Just wondered what other people do?!

Sippy Blush

Just use a sippy cup. My 6 year old still has a Tommee Tippee sippy cup of water by her bed at night. She has a tendency to spill it all down herself if she wakes in the night and drinks from an open cup!

We use the miracle 360 cups, or whatever they are called - there’s a few different versions. Non spill but a normal cup drinking movement. I think the sippy cups with a spout can be bad for teeth.

Is your daughter potty trained?

bonzo77 · 24/02/2019 08:46

@thefirst48 how is that relevant?

OP my 3.5 year old still has milk from a bottle morning and night. Brushes teeth after. No immediate plans to stop but might do in the summer before we go on holiday.

RainbowWaffles · 24/02/2019 08:52

She is potty trained.

The bottle isn’t my biggest issue and I wouldn’t mind continuing it a bit longer, but she also has a dummy so I am going to try to get rid of the dummy and bottle together. The dummy fairy can take both away and give her a bedtime cup. This is probably why I am overthinking the cup rather than just seeing what works!

Hmm, good point about the spout. I do recall also reading something about that. I think it’s fine for water, but not milk. The 360 might be a good compromise.

I'm only asking because I stopped giving milk before bed when my DD was potty trained otherwise she was waking for the toilet in the middle of the night. I give her milk in a morning instead now.

Wasn't a bitchy comment but a question!

Milk downstairs in a cup. They really don’t need it in bed.

She’s a ‘big girl’ now right...

Mumshappy · 24/02/2019 09:05

Yes milk downstairs in a cup with supper. Cup of water for upstairs if shes thirsty.

Mumshappy · 24/02/2019 09:07

I wouldnt get rid of the dummy and bottle together. Ive always got rid of the bottle by one but kept the dummy. Dd8 had a dummy at night for a long time loved the damm things.

DD (nearly 3) sometimes asks for milk in bed and happily still waits for an hour after getting up from her 12 hour sleep to saunter towards the toliet. I’m sure she has a bladder of steel.

LettuceP · 24/02/2019 09:11

Yeah I'd say milk downstairs in a cup. She doesn't need to take it upstairs. 3yo dd has a bottle of water (sports cap so it's less likely to spill down her pyjamas) by her bed if she gets thirsty.

RainbowWaffles · 24/02/2019 13:53

Yep it’s just something to have at bedtime before she goes to bed, certainly not for in her bed.
