First holiday with a baby

Hi, not really sure where to start in preparing for our first holiday with 7 month old. I’m sure google could help me with a checklist but there are a couple of things I can’t find the answer to on google. We will be going on a short haul flight with a relatively short coach transfer at the other end.

  1. Car seat... Do I take one?

  2. Night time... think daytime temp will be 22-24 presumably nights will be cooler. Do I just take baby’s normal sleeping bags etc?

  3. Does anyone have any advice on things I probably haven’t thought of?

Thank you in advance.

Yes to the car seat but make sure it is really well padded for the flight. I also wrote all over it baby's car seat, fragile in the hope that it would make them look after it better!

I wouldn't hire one with the car as you never know what state it's in. We hired one in Greece and they said it was new. What they meant was the cover was new, the actual car seat had rust on it. The other option if you're going somewhere near a main city is to buy one out there. Not ideal but better than risking a dodgy hire one or yours getting damaged.

I would cater for all eventualities at night! From.blankets and sleeping bags to just a vest to sleep in!

The only travel we will be once we get off the plane will be a short transfer from the airport to the hotel.

I don't want to risk our car seat getting damaged but I can't imagine they would be too careful with it no matter how you wrapped it. So really not sure what to do.

I'd speak to the travel company (assuming the coach transfer is part of a package) as they may have them or not allow them - the only such transfer we have made we were informed we were not allowed to take a seat up by using a carseat (as you don't pay for infants and they aren't allocated a seat) as the bus was full. I haven't made such a journey again.

We are doing similar. I'm a bit anxious about the car seat situation as I don't see where we would put one on a full coach but if there was some issue with the coach and we had to get a taxi I don't want to be without one

If it's only the coach transfer then you won't be allowed one anyway as children aren't allowed a seat on the coach, they have to sit on your lap

Oh ok. Thank you. X

We went to Spain for two weeks last year and DS was 6.5 months old. We took our own carseat and Im glad we did as we just knew how to use it better and how safe it was. It was never damaged in the flight thankfully.
I took all eventualities for night time although it was much warmer than we expected at end of September so DS never used his sleeping bag or a sleepsuit (still better to bring them them anyway!).We never used the aircon much because it made the room too cold so used a fan in the room instead.

We brought a baby swim float thingy (Amazon) and it was good for the pool.
Also had a mosquito net for the travel cot but never used it half the time as there werent many mozzies where we were. I also didnt use much of the repellant either.
There was a lidl near us for nappies when we ran out and anything else. We were doing a mix of BLW and spoonfeeding so I had brought our own pouches/baby cereal but did buy some over there too.
I was bottle feeding and DS was on goats milk formula so I brought my own bottles and formula.
Brought just a small selection of toys and books and a blanket for DS to lie on in the shade.
Also packed calpol and nurofen in case we needed it. I had those calpol suspension sachets for the plane journey in case his ears seemed to hurt.
Dont worry about bringing everything, you can always buy things over there and its worth checking out nearby supermarkets to where youre staying.
