Advice- leaving son for 2 nights

Hi there, new here so not sure if this is the right subject to put this in but here goes.

My friend has invited me to a tattoo convention in October with overnight stay (that she's already booked as a surprise) in a hotel for 2 nights. I have a son who will be 4 at the time and in DH's very capable hands, but I'm being made to feel very guilty about even considering going by my mum. To her, it's too long and a mother shouldn't want to do anything without her child.

Just wondered what your opinions on this were and what you'd do in my shoes. Thanks everyone

Your Mum is a dick. Your DS will be perfectly fine, he will be with his father. I'm going to take a guess and say that your Mum wouldn't have a problem with your DH leaving his child for 2 days. Tell her it's not the 1950's any more and that your DH is as capable a parent as you are.

InDubiousBattle · 21/02/2019 17:59

So your ds will be 4? As in Years? And left with his father? Bloody hell op your mum's nuts.

PuzzlingPuzzle · 21/02/2019 18:02

Go, enjoy yourself and don’t feel guilty. Your son will be well looked by his other parent and it’s very healthy to do adult-only things occasionally.

Please ignore your mother who is living in a different era and I’d suggest telling her politely that it’s not up for discussion should she bring it up again.

Your Mum is being ridiculous. My DGC have been staying over for one or two nights since they were four months old! You're planning to leave your DS with his own father, and you are more than entitled to some time to yourself.

Caterina99 · 21/02/2019 18:07

Your mum is being ridiculous. Your DS is 4 years old!! Not 4 weeks. And you’re going to be away for 2 nights, not 2 months!

That’s is completely normal and the vast majority of my friends wouldn’t bat an eyelid at leaving their kids for that length of time with their dad.

AssassinatedBeauty · 21/02/2019 18:08

Your mum is being absurd. Your son is 4 years old! And with his Dad. He'll be absolutely fine, you go and have a great time!

If your Mum says anything, laugh at her and tel her she's being ridiculous.

ApolloandDaphne · 21/02/2019 18:10

Your child has two parents both of whom are equally capable of caring for him. Your DM is being rather silly. Go and enjoy yourself.

AppleKatie · 21/02/2019 18:15

Blimey I thought you were going to say your baby was weeks old!

DS is four and I have left him for three (seperate) weeks in his life for a combination of work and volunteering type things. The earliest was when he was 22 months. Each time left with his very capable father. He was fine. 100% totally fine.

mindutopia · 21/02/2019 21:04

Oh my god, go! Enjoy! I left my eldest for 2 nights at 9 months and then for two weeks for long haul work travel at 18 months. I go away on a weekend break at least once a year without them (as does my dh). It’s wonderful and makes me a better parent.

honeylane · 22/02/2019 10:11

Sorry OP your mum is being unreasonable

It will be a nice weekend for your DS and DH to spend some one on one time

SileneOliveira · 22/02/2019 10:14

Your mother is being an idiot. Go, have a wonderful time and tell your mother that her opinion is not called for.

cestlavielife · 22/02/2019 10:14

4 years absolutely fine what is that matter with these people. You are not leaving him he is stay8ng with parent.
Four months could still be fine if bottle fed and you desperate to go
Four weeks no.

BackforGood · 23/02/2019 20:50

Agree with everyone else.
Your Mum is being ridiculous.
In what possible world could leaving a 4 yr old with his Dad for a night be a bad thing ? Confused
