Weaning

Hi, could really do with some advice.

My DS has always been a good milk drinker and a great sleeper doesn’t sleep much in daytime a couple of 30 minute naps.

I started to introduce solids at exactly 6 months he is nearly 7 months now.
He has loved everything that has been offered to him which is fantastic. He doesn’t seem to finish all his milk feeds though.
However since introducing solids he now wakes at 4.30am every morning. Sometimes he settles back to sleep but mostly not and wants to get up.
What am I doing wrong.

This is his feeding schedule,

If awake and won’t settle 5am- 8oz bottle
(sometimes doesn’t take all)
7.30/8am- 8oz bottle (sometimes doesn’t take all)
8.30ish- Porriage/weatabix and few sips of water
11am- 6oz bottle cut down from 8oz (sometimes doesn’t take all)
Noon- He has a half a jar of cauliflower cheese or carrot and parsnip, if not that he will have fruit mixture. Few sips of water.
2.30/3pm- 6oz bottle cut down from 8oz (sometimes doesn’t take all) sometimes misses this feed if asleep but not very often.
5.30pm- Dinner, try 6oz bottle. Cut down from 8oz (sometimes doesn’t take all). Half Jar of chicken with sweet potatoes or whatever else I have. Few sips of water.
8/8.30pm- 8oz bottle (sometimes doesn’t take all)
Then he goes to bed.
Times in day can differ not always exact time on the dot that I’ve written.
Sorry for the essay but could really do with some advice.

Thanks
Xx

Have you considered the weaning progress and the change in sleep pattern are unrelated?

KMS8985 · 21/02/2019 08:54

To be honest no. I just thought it was due to weaning as he wakes up a lot earlier than he ever has. And I know he can’t be hungry.

There's loads of development going on at this stage so it's common for sleep to be disturbed.

Is that his natural bedtime? Have you tried him a bit earlier to see if that will help. Seems counterintuitive but I've found that more sleep = better sleep.

I did try on Monday putting him to bed at 7.30pm and he woke at 4.30am then Tuesday I went back to his normal time 8.30 but he still awoke at 4.30am.
It’s a difficult one to know what is best and he really isn’t much of a sleeper in the day time he has naps but not for long.

Babies sleep changes all the time. All mine went through a phase of very early risings, you just have to roll with it.

I would also maybe look at trying some foods that are more varied textures for him instead of jars.
