13 month old refusing bottles

Hi

My 13 month old DD was poorly last week with a viral infection mixed with teething. During this time, she went off her food and milk. She was having 8oz's in the morning and again at night.

She's feeling a lot better and her appetite has picked up, but she's still refusing to drink any milk. I can sometimes get her to have 2/3oz's in the morning if I mix it in with cereal, but she just pushes her bottles away if I try and get her to have a drink.

She does the same if I put the milk in her tippy cup or beaker, but will drink juice/water from these throughout the day.

Should I be worried that she's not drinking her milk and take her to the doctors? Or do babies usually go off their milk around this age?

Any help or advice would be very grateful!

Will she take yoghurt, cheese, milk in cereal? They dont need that much to drink if they have other sources of calcium.

She loves yogurt and cheese. She used to love a big bowl of muesli in the morning before she got ill, but now she just spits it out after a few mouth full.

13 months, she's probably eating a varied diet by now. I would not worry.

NHS advice is to drop bottles at 12 months anyway so it’s fine. She needs 350mg of calcium a day from her diet eg milk in cereal, cheese, yoghurts and fortified bread.

She doesn't need milk from a bottle, better not to in fact. Give her milk and water to drink from a cup and a varied diet.

I’d take this as an opportunity to get rid of the bottle while she’s not bothered.

Just offer cows milk in a cup, along with water of course as normal. It’s only been a week so it might take her a little while to get back to her normal appetite again. She doesn’t really need milk though as long as she has other calcium sources so I wouldn’t worry about it too much

Thank you, I just tried her with cereal this morning and she ate 3/4 of it with 4oz's of milk.

I just worry as she's still so small, and doesn't stop moving throughout the day. I'd hate to think she wasn't getting everything she needed to thrive.

Ditch the bottles right now !
Much easier than trying to stop a 2 year old .
And don’t give juice at all. It’s empty calories and so bad for teeth. Stick to water.

I wouldn't worry and would also see this as an opportunity to drop bottles. If she's had a tummy upset at all small children often become temporarily intolerant of dairy afterwards while the gut heals.

She's eating and drinking. She'll be fine.

I breastfed and expressed my DC when I went back to work. She completely went off bottles at 11 months so wouldn't drink anything while I was at work. She eats well and takes yogurt and cheese. GP said her growth is still on track and if her diet is good then not to worry. She's 15 months now and will drink a bit of milk from a straw or sippy cup and directly nurse 1x a day, that's all.

DC1 was taking way more milk at the same age so I did worry but every baby is different I suppose.
