Hello all, I am looking to see if anyone could help me. I have a 6 month year old child and I am looking to see when I should start introducing solid food. I have looked on google and it says that this is the right time but I am looking for some real opinions from mothers. Can anyone help ?

There seems to be a lot of debate around this with everyone telling you that what they did was the best way. I don’t know which is best but for us this is worked.
I have Dd a piece of banana as her first food. Then steamed carrot.
The same day she grabbed a handful of Sunday lunch off my aunts plate and had a good chew on that.
Toast fingers are often suggested but I found that quarters or triangles were better as they didn’t flop.
I didn’t worry about three meals a day and started out by giving lunch as it was the most convenient. I introduced breakfast not long after and would give Dd some of our dinner if it was something she could have and the timings worked.
I am a bit too lazy to bother with puréed but I didn’t religiously stick to blw. With some foods it seemed silly, things like yogurt or porridge I spoon fed.
Dd was not confused by the combination and will now eat almost anything.

:o I wouldn't mind being corrected but it appears they haven't actually read the WHO or AAP guidelines (if the AAP was even relevant in the UK).

Neither of my children were fussed about food as a baby. They ate small amounts of purées (when they felt like it) and they mostly threw finger foods on the floor. My son didn't actually start eating anything until he was 8 months because of illness and him not wanting to.

Do what works best for you and your baby. Purées work for some, BLW for others or a mixture. People get very passionate about what they think is best for other people.

Agree nothing wrong with purees and self feeding- I believe it is called traditional weaning and it is what most people did before BLW was all the rage.

Gosh @BertieBotts it is not semantics my dear, you will anger the BLweaners if you are not careful- BLW is PURELY letting baby feed itself so no purees at all. Mixed is traditional weaning. Grin
