Non-toxic baby bath?

First time mum here overthinking it all. Wink Has anyone found a good non-toxic baby bath (free of BPA, phthalates, PVC etc.)? Googling brings up a few options but they all seem to be US only. The Stokke Flexi bath seems ok in terms of material, but a bit pricey in combination with the newborn support you'd need to buy separately, and I don't really need a foldable bath.

Any tips?

we just used the normal bath tub.

dementedpixie · 15/02/2019 17:32

We used the big bath with a bath support

no need for newborn inserts. just use your arms.

The sink. Then the bath.

ValleyoftheHorses · 15/02/2019 17:34

We never had one. I had a bath in plain water and he got in with me- lovely cuddles.
We had a bath support for a while.
He’s now 6 and still likes a bath with mummy Grin

I have the flex bath, it's great, we don't have a bath, just a shower and are low on space, so it was a godsend for us as it folds down. Still in use now at two years old.

However if you have a bath I'd just use that. We used the kitchen sink for a good while as well.

UrbaneSprawl · 15/02/2019 17:41

Yeah, we bought a bath support too, but found that getting in the bath with them was easier and much nicer for us both...

Thanks all! I do have a normal bath, but I was thinking it might be a bit of a faff fto use that for various reasons. Most importantly I guess I'm likely to have a c-section so bending over the side (or even getting in and sitting down with the baby) is probably not going to be easy for a while. Also for that reason I'd prefer a newborn insert so I wouldn't have to support the baby. Or maybe my husband should just be on bath duty for the first weeks? Grin We may also move countries shortly after the birth and live in a city where baths are not standard in apartments, so also thinking ahead for that. To be honest it does just seem a lot more convenient anyway to have a nice small bath that you can put anywhere, and not have to get in the bath yourself every time...

I used a large foam sponge in the bath when mine were tiny (cost less than £10) which I found v useful. Though half the time I just used my own arms to support.

As for BPA etc free, I think this is a bit of a a red herring. Your newborn baby isn’t going to be spending that long in the bath and isn’t going to be drinking the water - so Imo these expensive bath aids are a victory for marketing over common sense. (I can say that now because I was once a new mother who was taken in by lots of these type of products!)

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 15/02/2019 17:55

We used the sink and normal bath

fuckwitseverywhere · 15/02/2019 18:01

We got a padded bath mat and used the main bath from birth. It was far less hassle

dementedpixie · 15/02/2019 18:02

This looks quite compact

shnuggle bath

True, there is a lot of bullshit out there and it's a real challenge separating the science from the marketing tricks! But there's fairly strong evidence that toxins from plastic are absorbed through the skin as well as released into the air, especially when plastic is heated up. Of course the actual severity of the health risks that poses to humans is still a big unknown. So I'm just taking the approach of trying to select what seems like the safest option where sensible/available/affordable, but not worrying about it too much. Every little bit helps, I guess.

We used the Shnuggle which was very good, website says it's BPA free and "made from non-toxic polypropylene".

I bought so many things for my first born and I didn't end up using most things. For my next two children I just bathed them in the bath.

Wallsbangers · 15/02/2019 18:54

We had a Shnuggle it was great. Wouldn't spend loads on one because they're in it for a relatively short time.

Smurfy23 · 15/02/2019 19:24

We used the kitchen sink at first then the big bath

SpeedyBojangles · 15/02/2019 19:35

All mine started in washing up bowls!

Now have a shnuggle.

hipstercat · 15/02/2019 22:12

Thanks! The shnuggle looks nice. Did you all find that it supports the baby's head enough before they can hold it up by themselves, or do you still need to kind of keep them from flopping forward?
