Hello

Was wondering does anyone keep a physical note of when their baby last fed? I’m referring to anytime up to day 6 months ? Thank you x

I've got an app on my phone to record feeds, changes and sleeps for my little one. Makes my life soooo much easier Grin

Am keen to see how many parents record their babies feeds... use apps or some other method to keep track x

I did do this, but I literally have no idea why I bothered! I religiously noted time and length of feeds, including over night feeds. I noted side of boob, types of nappy change, the whole shebang.
It did help to show me when things improved and I got more sleep.
It did help to show me when I had a second child that, yes, DC1 had been just as bad at the start.
But I never referred back to it mid/end of a day to work out where I was or anything.

Are you keeping notes?

Whoops75 · 13/02/2019 23:53

I did,was easier than worrying about it at a later stage.

EyeDrops · 13/02/2019 23:59

I started but found that it stressed me out too much. I didn't see the benefit (past the first few days) so gave up and was much happier feeling more relaxed about it!

I always did, I also made notes of what time bottles were made and the steriliser was changed.

I used to keep a diary when mine were little ... was just keen to see if other parents do the same or whether it was just me lol am reassured to see I wasn’t alone x

I really can't see why anyone would keep a detailed record of when and how much milk a baby drinks, or when they do a wee / poo!

Don't get me wrong, I love a to-do list and write a diary every night, so I do like writing things down. I'm also pretty uptight in general...

But I just fed my babies when they seemed to want it for as long as they wanted. (I breastfed and just used whichever side felt fuller.) I changed their nappies when they were wet / dirty. Sometimes they fed for comfort. Sometimes they fed loads. Sometimes not so much.

On any occasion when they went longer than usual between times I'm sure I would have noticed before it was time to worry.

Small babies need to feed on demand don't they? Not on a schedule. It's their only way of getting what they need, rather than what we think they might need.

AngelaStorm73 · 14/02/2019 18:29

I was asked to keep a diary and just carried on. Baby was poorly, reflux, didn't latch well at all, and constipated on and off, express and formula bottle fed and some breastfeeds. It was hell until things settled down and by then I was in the routine of writing it down. So some people keep a record for a good reason.

HoustonBess · 14/02/2019 18:42

If the baby is clearly feeding enough, weeing/pooing enough and gaining weight then you're better spending your time doing something else.

We had feeding problems to begin with and I shudder to think of the records we had to keep. I was very glad to stop them.

rubyroot · 14/02/2019 19:01

No idea why you would need to?

rubyroot · 14/02/2019 19:01

Unless of course as @HoustonBess says there are feeding issues

Pinchycrab · 14/02/2019 19:03

I use an app called Baby Connect. Mainly use it now to keep record of sleep (to try and improve it!) and when he's had calpol, but it was useful for feeds in the early months

Eminybob · 14/02/2019 19:09

I had an app with DS1. The main reason I started using it was to remind myself which side I needed to feed on next, but it became an obsession and although I was feeding on demand I would be like ‘well it’s only been 1 hour 39 minutes since his last feed so why is he hungry again???’

I’m now feeding DS2 and have stayed away from the app or timing feeds or anything as it was just a cause of anxiety for me. Much for relaxed about things this time (except at night when I am like ‘it’s only been 45 bloody minutes since he was last up how the hell is he up again??!!’ Grin)

bourbonbiccy · 14/02/2019 21:16

Yes I used to keep a manual record of feed times. Never trusted an app (probably a bit weird looking back lol )

MuchTooTired · 14/02/2019 21:20

I didn’t know there was an app, so just recorded all feeds and bum changes for my DTs on my phone and the times. I couldn’t remember at all, it was just a blur of changing bums and filling tums! I stopped once they started sleeping through the night because I started to sleep and had the energy to remember Grin

notanaturalmum · 14/02/2019 21:37

I did for my first. Using an app.
Mainly to give myself perspective.
People used to say that I was permanently breastfeeding which upset me.
But then I'd look at my app and realise that I actually maybe only spent 4 hrs max a day. So it helped me. And also helped to identify patterns, but I like that sort of stuff.
I'm now pregnant again and it's useful to look back on so I can see that whilst it started off bad, it did get a lot better.
I only recorded rough feed times and sides, didn't bother with nappies after the first fortnight.
