Teeth coming in 'wrong' order

cornflakes5 · 11/02/2019 21:16

My little one is 10 months and she's got her two bottom central incisors. She also recently got a top incisor, but weirdly not central but lateral. Her top central incisors are nowhere to be seen! Has anyone else had this?

Related: should I be taking her to see the dentist anyway, now that she has teeth? And should we be brushing twice daily or will once a day do seeing she only has three?

Thank you.

Jess reading just yesterday that although many baby’s teeth come through in the same order as others, there is nothing to worry about.

Also, I asked dentist a couple of weeks ago about when should first visit be and he said by one/just after.

I was reading just yesterday

Thank you Tilda that's helpful! In a sleep-deprived moment I was imagining the worst, that she had no central incisors or needed them cut out from her gum... (she's teething at the moment and I'm not really sleeping 👹)

I’m in a similar boat hence being able to give you what I had read and been told. I think the seeing a dentist at around one is so we can ask these sort of questions. My eldest’s first tooth was really wonky and I assumed all would be but the rest came through straight and now that one is too - if you’re a worrier and tired, it’s easy to go to undesired outcomes!

cornflakes5 · 11/02/2019 21:30

Thanks Tilda. How often do you brush your little one's teeth, and for how long each time?

(I'm not normally this anxious - both my husband and I have teeth problems and I want to get our baby off to as good a start as possible!)

There is nothing to be done about the order teeth come in. However, the probability of needing orthodontic treatment is greater when teeth don’t behave according to prescribed norms. Talk to your dentist and try to get an early orthodontist referral.

When my lo was that age I used this

It's a teething toothbrush we found it quite good. I think I used to do her teeth twice a day with a proper toothbrush which she still hates lol

cornflakes5 · 11/02/2019 21:37

Thank you for the toothbrush tip redken we're currently using these bamboo ones with soft bristles, but the chewable one looks great.

The dentist said to get him used to doing it daily now so we do! We use a 0-2 toothpaste.

My ds first teeth were his canines. He looked like a little vampire for ages but they all came out fine in the end.

youlemming · 11/02/2019 23:05

Both my DD's had their teeth fairy early and not in the 'correct' order, my older DD is now almost 9 and I was worried they would fall out early causing issues later on but the baby teeth started falling out around the avg age of 6 and she just in the last couple of weeks lost the first molar.

The usual thing is to take children along to any dental check up appointments you have so they get used to being there, have a sit in the chair and our dentist would have a quick look in their mouth without doing anything, it's more about getting them comfortable at this age.

Mudmonster · 11/02/2019 23:08

My ds also got his canine teeth first, top and bottom, he looked so cute when he smiled Grin
Funnily enough they also fell out in the order that them came in. He’s 10 now and has beautiful teeth.

Here's a thing in teething

firsttimebabybirther · 12/02/2019 00:18

DS is 101 months . He didn't cut his first tooth until he was about 9 months old , he's 11 months old now and has his full smile line set, came through in the order you described

firsttimebabybirther · 12/02/2019 00:19

He's 11 months not 8 years GrinBlush

Thanks again, it's reassuring reading your posts Smile

As soon as she has teeth she needs to go to the dentist. Brush twice a day and check the tooth paste has enough fluoride. You can just use adult toothpaste.

ew1990 · 12/02/2019 21:23

DD got her 2 bottom central teeth at 9 months. Then her lateral incisor at 12 months followed by the 2 central ones. And then along came four molars. 2 top and 2 bottom one on each side.

She's 15 month now and the other lateral incisor is cutting through. So hers definitely aren't in the average order

cornflakes5 · 13/02/2019 09:24

How does everyone get their little ones to cooperate with brushing? Ours resists like a champ, and blocks access to her teeth with her tongue... 😒

Just keep doing it. I have to make up songs. Do a bit then stop then a bit more. Takes me about 15 minutes altogether
