Do people really think this about working parents ?

I've got a appointment at my dd school tomorrow. I've asked if it's ok that I come in work late and I'll make the time up . I'll probably be a hour and 1/2 late but I'll stay late or come in early the next day to make up the time it's all been agreed with my manager.
Anyway I mentioned it to the others when going home I'll be late tomorrow. One colleague made a mocking comment which was ' oh cause I've got a kid ' implying that I take time off because I'm a parent . I think he realised that he was bu cause he sort of backtracked .
Anyway of course I ignored him but it made me think do people really think that way of working parents that we take the piss with time off because of children? .
I have a adult son and my dd is a teenager but has SEN so will use my annual leave for childcare .
I've had the occasional dig over the years but I hardly ever take time off unless it's annual leave if they are ill I usually get childcare so it's not like I'm always off .
It just made me think .

Yes, a lot of people feel that way. But they are BU.

Why should their opinion even scare you? I also have two SN children to support. I use a private childcare provider. I pay her under the table using some of the DLA money to cover the costs of travel on her behalf. She has experience with children with disabilities.

I’m sure they do think that. But I bet you don’t take the day off for a sniffle like so many do.

Oh, fuck them. I suggest that the next time a colleague makes a bitchy remark, instead of ignoring them you politely ask them to explain what exactly they mean, and don't drop it until they have exposed themselves for the small minded idiots they are? Some people are happy to make vague bitchy remarks if they think they can get away with it.

Hope the appointment at the school goes well!
