I can't remember with DS1, but DS2 has just giggled in his sleep (Awww!!!!) and is 3 weeks old.

Just want to know when I can expect a conscious smile at mummy!!!

at about 6 weeks

I think it can be anytime from 6 weeks ish. Although I have heard other people swear their baby has smiled earlier.

My dd wasn't a very smiley baby but my ds is and I remember him doing it earlier than her.

4 weeks here

3 weeks for both my dds, but I think it's usually later. SO sweet when it first happens. Don't think it's a reliable indicator of how many A-levels they're going to get though

Weegle · 04/07/2007 16:01

DS was 3 weeks, and they were definite smiles. He is still a very smiley boy. He was 2 weeks overdue though so I don't know if that makes any difference, adjusted age etc...

suedonim · 04/07/2007 18:37

All mine smiled at around three weeks. Dd2 scarily used to laugh in her sleep, from about 10 days old. It was most un-nerving to hear chortles coming from her moses basket at 2 in the morning.

If you work really hard you can get them to smile earlier than standard 6 weeks

nickytwotimes · 04/07/2007 19:58

mine "smiled" at 6 weeks, but it wasn't till he was about 10 wks that i got a real joyful looking smile wher it seemed to me it meant something.

mamadoc · 04/07/2007 21:44

5 weeks for DD. They say you can tell a real smile from a wind one by how it spreads to their eyes and whole face not just the mouth and I found that to be true.

daisyandbabybootoo · 04/07/2007 21:52

DS smiled at 5.5 weeks, and it was a real corker.

DD is 4 weeks old and has had an amused look on her face when DS talks to her for about a week now. This afternoon we got a first proper smile...it was lovely!

Mine seemed to take forever! I would say about 7 weeks.. he´s now almost 10 weeks and they are frequent and beautiful and well worth waiting for! (awwww)
