21 month old screaming at bedtime

DD (21 months) has never been a good sleeper but has been sleeping through on and off for a couple of months now. Over the past couple of weeks however, she's become hysterical when we put her down to sleep. We normally cuddle her till she's there or thereabouts, with dummy then put her down and she sleeps. Now she wakes as soon as she hits the cot and screams hysterically. If we sit with her she calms down and chats and laughs away but as soon as we try to put her down or leave the room, hysteria again. I've never seen her so distressed.
She naps (at nursery) for about an hour at lunchtime and we aim to put her down for about 7.15. Anyone had similar or have any pearls of wisdom? It's horrible seeing her like that!

We had this phase. It was linked to language development. We added in a bedtime story (or 3), getting her to lie down in her bed sleepy but awake and we’d read to her and she would eventually fall asleep.

Thanks for that. It may well be linked to language as her talking is coming on leaps and bounds at the mo. We've started putting her down awake and reading her a story in the cot and oddly, it has worked! She's been knackered going down the last couple of nights though.

Hi.. My DD is also 21 months and has always been a good sleeper but recently she goes to bed around 7 and wakes up hour or 2 later screaming.. I've noticed that she's teething with her molars so give Calpol and some cuddles and she settles for the night. So maybe your LO maybe teething as well.

Hope this helps and your LO soon settles for you
