I have been using a combi of washable and moltex disposables for my dd now 14m - I dry pail - some days easier than others.

I am potty training ds as well and find myself drowning in poo and wee!! so I do opt for using the moltex on those days!!!

Anyway now dd is a huge 15mo I am running out o nappies that fit her and I am having real trouble getting the washables on her as she will not lay down and wait patiently as I fasten the various layers around her. The all-in-one nappies cost a fortune and I find them a bit leaky. So how do you get a wriggly toddler into washable nappies - what is the secret - please share with me ...??? And are there nappies out there for a 35lb baby with a magnificent 'jelly' iykwim

gaffer tape..... no seriously my son is now on the move and i struggle with two pieces which he has been in a few days this week as due to the weather i have been runing out of my faves - pocket nappies with poppers or aplix - after laundered there made up and you just pin him down (literally) and chuck on the nappy like a sposie - mine doesnt undo aplix yet so this is working well for us and poppers just as easy. I do many pockets. As for your 35lb - i have just checked my stock and a fuzzi bunz large goes up to 45+ allegedly and are very containable and one of the most reliable pocket nappies i have found along with a bumgenius but i dont think a bg would be so good for a bigger baby.

derah · 03/07/2007 19:16

I just pin mine down. I've heard that changing on the floor with one leg over baby to hold him/her down works well. I've tried it a couple of times when dd is extra wiggly and it seems to work!! That and having the new nappy on top of the wrap all ready to go before you start the change.

I still find 2 part more reliable - aplix nappy, get it on em and let them run, then chase, catch and slide on an airflow wrap with 3 of the 4 poppers done up - fasten the last waist one as its up.

35lber - I would say bambineo/bambinex if you want a 2 part (possibly an xl airflow wrap, if not a rebs or get a WAHM to make you one). Pockets - yup, the large fuzzi.

I tend to change DS's nappy backwards a lot of the time, so I lean over his head to grab his legs. He lays still and giggles trying to grab my necklace/norks.

SnowballV · 03/07/2007 19:32

(Sorry - am Flamesparrow btw)

archiesmummy · 03/07/2007 20:11

We use pockets or AIOs.

The chasing and pinning down thing we do too, and also the re doing of undone poppers again and again until we have managed to get trousers on so he can't take nappy off anymore (pfeew)
Aplix is easier to put on but much, much quicker to get off as well.

Do they leak? No, but they need changing every 2-3 hours normally (sometimes lasts longer and depends on what they are stuffed with).

Good Luck!

SnowballV · 03/07/2007 20:23

My DS is normally so gleeful at the running he is engrossed in that so forgets to take the nappy off straight away

bigmouthstrikesagain · 03/07/2007 20:33

Thank you for replies

I tend to change dd - in bathroom she stands on stool and plays with her toothbrush while i try and fit the nappy. I have it all ready but I have a load of nappies requiring nappy nippas and they are a b*er to fasten from behind.

I will try the bumgenius and others suggested i have wasted money on multi - it nappies motherease and imse - they are not birth to potty on my kids!!

trying to type while eeding lying down is not easy espcially with as sticky f dkey'

It is the added layer of liner (fleece and paper that I find tricky as they get twisted up - but I can't do without them as dd is a heavy wetter and it helps keep the worst o the soiling off the nappy.

I haven't tried uzzi buns or bambineo - sandy's are ok I need to get some bigger ones.

I will be putting the out grown nappies up or sale as they have plenty o lie in them yet - sorry about the missing F 's - btw this is a new laptop as well not impressed

Can anyone tell me about the bumble? or Bumper? Have been looking them up on tinternet and as GB made nappies I am interested - do they dry well etc. - I don't use tumble dryer but I am hoping that we will have some dry weather this year!!!

(ordering a couple of Fuzzis as well).

Flame - why incognito? as soon as you used the word norks i knew it was you!!!

SnowballV · 03/07/2007 22:17

I really like bumbles - nice bit of stretch to them somehow, and fleece inner so no faffing with separate liner.

Bigmouth - Bumbles are great. They're my second favourite as they fit really well, have a poppered booster and dry quite quickly. They're even better on newer babies because they sort of fold down and popper into themselves to make a smaller nappy (hard to explain). If you buy them from online nappy shops they only come in white but if you buy direct from the people who make them (based in Oxford) you can get some funky colours. I've got a lilac one with pink/purple check fleece and a turquoise one with blue/green check fleece.

Easy Peasy website

archiesmummy · 04/07/2007 14:03

Gutted, used to live in Oxford, but now I'm miles away derah. Shame they don't show any colours on website

As an update - thank you for your advice - Have bought some new nappies and wraps and am doing well with keeping to the cloth - not bought nay disposables for about a month. Intend to keep it that way.

I have found the ella's house xlarge hemp nappy very absorbant for an overnight wear (dd is a heavy wetter!!) - so will prob get a couple more o those.

So cheers for your valuable input...
