Formula - please vote SMA or Cow & Gate

I know this has been asked a million times, but I'm asking between these two specifically.
Baby is due soon, our hospital only supply those two now, and along with Aptamil, they're the two most readily available in local shops.
I don't want to use any in hospital, and then switch to Aptamil when coming home, as first baby had severe allergies, so need to be able to pinpoint exactly what's been digested.

I cannot breastfed - so formula help only please.

We can't tell you, it's whatever suits your baby best

IWantMyHatBack · 04/02/2019 13:45

C&G is very similar to aptamil (I believe it's made by the same company). We tried SMA initially, but if made DS really gassy so we switched to C&G and it suited him much better.

C&G. It’s cheaper

I understand that @dementedpixie but I haven't met my baby yet, so I would rather start baby with what has suited the majority of other babies who have used it.. I will then review it if needed, once Baby is here.

We went with cow and gate as Aptimal made DS have green poos. Plus its cheapest around here except for Aldi.

dementedpixie · 04/02/2019 13:59

I would take a couple of the newborn starter sets into hospital with you. Think most of the major brands make them

Cow & Gate

Schmoobarb · 04/02/2019 14:04

Mine are much bigger now but I used cow and gate for both mine. On the basis that that was what my mum had used for me 30 odd years previously. I don’t think any one is better than any other.

WhenLifeGivesYouLemonsx · 04/02/2019 14:04

None

HiPP organic worked best for my baby

princessTiasmum · 04/02/2019 14:14

All my children [5] were fed on cow and gate, and people actually use to stop me and ask what they were fed on, they were very chunky, not fat, and even when they were grown up they are all strong muscley
lads ,well 4 of them, the [other is a girl]

Nodramanollama · 04/02/2019 14:18

My baby was combination fed. We used cow and gate to begin with. He was premature and sufferes with acid reflux. We found this made it worse. We switched to hipp organic and it made such a difference. Cant recommend it enough.

Nanny care

IWouldPreferNotTo · 04/02/2019 14:31

We tried Aptamil and it left him gassy and irritable, switched to SMA and it was fine. Then in a fit of idiocy I tried using the bottle of Aptamil we had left over to see if it was coincidence and it wasn't.

Willow4987 · 04/02/2019 16:49

We tried cow and gate but it made him gassy.

Now on HIPP and haven’t looked back

Also just because the hospital provides only 3 types you could just take it in with you? I think all of the brands do pre-made cartons with teats for newborns. I know HIPP do if you look on their website

myotherbagisgucci · 04/02/2019 18:02

DD1: We switched from Aptamil to SMA.

DD2: We'll be starting off on SMA.

0lgaDaPolga · 04/02/2019 22:47

My 2 boys have both had cow and gate. We didn’t try any others as they got on with it just fine. I didn’t actually choose cow and gate. It’s what he was given in the hospital (I wasn’t well enough to feed him) so we just carried on with it and he did really well on it, so ds2 has had the same. I think they are all pretty similar to be honest though.
