She was a reasonable sleeper up until 6 months ago. She now wakes wanting milk. She loves her milk in a bottle all day and all night. Any practical tips to stop this?

My son was a really bottle addict ( he’s now 20), we had to take it off him when he was about 3 and a half as he was slow to potty train and his speech wasn’t great either ( hence speech therapist advised). He didn’t used to wake at night for it though.

Could she be hungry? My friend ( who is a very experienced mum /childminder) use to recommend ‘proper porridge’ ( as opposed to baby cereal) as a snack just before bed.

Good luck, it’s so hard when they love their bottle, I thought DS would still be walking round with his now 🤣

With such a bottle addict the best approach would be to go cold turkey with lots of distraction and as a PP suggested, plenty of porridge and filling food. Trying to cut down will be just as painful and difficult as cutting it all out in one go. Once she gets the idea that there is definitely no more bottle coming, in any circumstance, she will begin to adapt. In the nicest possible way, it’s you who needs to make the decision and suck up the difficult few days.

Time for the bottle fairy to come?

Buy them a super cool cup and say that the bottle fairy needs the bottles for new babies but left a really cool cup instead. Let her have milk during the day, but only water at night. You’ll have a rough few days, but with lots of praise she’ll soon get over it.
