Baby wipes?

Someone who just had a baby told me to start stocking up on baby wipes before my baby is born. I am worried about the chemicals in these though. Are they ok to use and if not then what are the alternatives?

you can get fragance free ones which have less chemicals or go for the nature brand. Otherwise you can use cotton wool/cloths and warm water

Water. Nothing else is needed for the first few months at least.

buy a load of cheap flannels or cut up a towel into wipe sized bits and hem them- use warm water or a homemade wipes solution. Bung them in the wash when you're done!

Cotton wool/cloths and warm water can be used but baby wipes may be easier when you are out.

The fewer chemilcals in the first weeks the better and even when bathing baby just use water and a little drop of liquid baby soap in the water. The wipes can be used from the start if you want to dip them into warm water it washes off the chemicals but still gives you a nice decent sized soft cloth that you can throw away. Cotton wool is best but its messy and you go through so many bags of the stuff. If you go to Lidl their wipes are thick and strong and v cheap 80 in a pack for under a £1.

even now at 12 months I only used water for bathing !Unless she is really really messy, or been swimming (to remove the chlorine) But I do use wetwipes for outdoor changes, and often indoors for nappy changes unless very messy, then she gets dunked in the bath.

She has great skin, no spots/rashes/excma

When I started mat leave just before DS1 arrived there was a thing on phil and fern about chemicals in every day toiletries. Iwas so shocked to learn that baby wipes are prevented from drying out .... by the antifreeze they contain!!!
So I try only to use them if out and about with no alternative. I bought a new dressing gown for hosp and chopped up the old towelling one, zig zagged the edges and dip in a bowl of water.
BTW at our nursery they ditched bought wipes and use water on all the kids bums instead now as a lot of kids are sensitive to the stuff in wipes.

Our nursery does not use wetwipes either, unless we want them to, and then we need to provide them.
