How old was your child when the developed a sense of smell

This may be an odd question.....

My son (10) has until very recently been oblivious to smells. Onions chopped, dogs doing smelly farts, manure spread on fields outside etc, he'd never mention it.

Now he does and is very tuned in to smells.

Got me wondering if it's a developmental thing? Or maybe he's just unique Grin

My dcs have been able to notice smells for as long as I can remember. They’re 7&9.
Dd in particular has a very sensitive sense of smell and will comment on scents.

Your ds sounds unusual.

Babies can recognise smells on the day they are born.

3/4 I'm a Montessori nursery teacher and my 3/4 year old comment on my perfume. Or if someone farts they say it stinks etc.. or if I'm chewing gum they tell me I smell spicy lol

My son had recently said he can't smell. He's 10. I was thinking I'd need to take him to the doctor as it alarmed me.
