How did you know your lo was ready for potty training?

My dd is 22 months old and my mum bought her her first potty today. I didn't think she was ready but when I took her nappy off before her nap she ran straight over to it and sat on it. This has made me unsure if she is ready for potty training. Can anyone let me know what the final signs were for starting their LO's on potty training? I don't really want to start her until she is ready.

DD started saying she had weed in the potty and when I looked she had and then one day she told me she has pooed in the potty and she had.

She needs to be able to tell you that she needs to use the potty, by which I mean she need to be able to talk and not that she needs to know when to go. She needs to be able to pulled trousers up and down herself.

Get the oh crap book but ignore the bits about not introducing the potty before hand and going completely cold turkey on nappies for nighttime too.

Thanks! She's not quite talking yet so I think I will leave it until she is. Hopefully in the next few months.

For now take her to the toilet when you go. Say ‘pants down, sit down’ and ‘stand up, pants up’ so she gets used to the order. Definitely take her when you have a poo so she knows some times they can be tricky and you have to wait a while.

I just went cold turkey for day and night. They were all dry before 2.5. With my stubborn one I didn’t remind him to go as I thought that would create a battle just let him get on with it himself.

Thank you for the replies. I've also noticed she is waking from naps and in the morning with a dry nappy. Not sure if this is a sign as well?

Night dryness is a controlled by hormones and is separate to Day dryness.
