Reusable nappies

Hi All,

I'm thinking of moving to reusable nappies for my 18 month old, but there is quite a lot of choice so I'd really like to see what people recommend, which brands have worked well for them and whIch ones to avoid. Also do you use a different type overnight to daytime etc.

Any tips or pointers will be gratefully received!

If you have a nappy library in your area they can lend you a mixed bundle so you can try some out

We use pocket nappies in the day and "all in twos" (Tots Bots bamboozles) overnight but what works best depends on the shape of your LO. The All in Ones are lovely but take forever to dry.

Go for speed of drying/assembly and disassembly rather than prettiness.

The nappy lady website has lots of advice. I think what works well will depend on how much your kid wets, for boys the wee tends to be more concentrated/sudden in one area so they can be more leak-prone.

We used motherease, not the most beautiful things in the world but very well made. They have terry nappy snap-up bits then a liner over the top. We experimented with boosters etc but ended up using disposables overnight.

I'd also recommend a nappy bucket with a mesh liner thing you can just stick straight in the washing machine so you don't have to fish them out. Also get some reusable liners, you can drop the poo right off and sluice by holding against the toilet flush, much easier than getting poo off the nappy itself. Plus they wick wee away and help prevent nappy rash.

BTW a LOT of people buy reusables then don't use them - which means you can get some excellent second hand bargains of unused/barely used stuff!
