Which dummy?

DS2 has mam bottles but is not a fan of the dummies - any others you would suggest?
DS1 liked nuk latex ones, although he was breastfed and they’re meant to be similar to nipple.
Open to cherry shape for first few months but is it then difficult to get them onto orthodontic when teeth come in?
Not asking whether I should use one or not so no judgement please Smile

I use MAM bottles and the MAM dummies. Use whatever your LO takes too. Nothing wrong with using a dummy or not. It's up to you

I would suggest no dummy at all. Better for mouth development as well as he will learn to soothe himself. My children weren't given dummies and they slept better than other babies, could put themselves back to sleep, and also never had attachment issues. Also dummies delay speech, cause more ear infections as the constant sucking causes excess saliva to build up in the ears. :) just a thought

My baby has a dummy and can soothe without it, during the day or at night.

@LaurenSarah22 that's great!

RainRainGoAwayy · 22/01/2019 18:02

Thanks @LaurenSarah22 I will try a few different ones and see which one (if any) he takes to before I buy lots of one type. Unfortunately all babies are different and if my baby has a need to ‘suck’ I would rather make him happy.
It’s great if you baby doesn’t need one. Personally, after weaning DS1 off of one at 9 months and regretting it straight away, I would rather DS2 did take one. I was asking WHICH one, not whether he should have one.

I use Philips avent ones, orthodontic and they have a handle that DD seems to find easier to use to put it back in herself (and it makes it possible to attach a clip so she can't launch it!)

Wateringhole · 22/01/2019 18:12

My DD was never fussed and would take any dummy but DS only seems to like the Tommee Tippee cherry type ones. All others he just spits out.

Lovely36 on the other side they are thought to reduce chances of SIDs and dummy suckers are unlikely to be thumb suckers, which is worse for the teeth.
OP whatever type you use make sure it’s one that’s available from the nearest supermarket to you, for urgent replacements!

Another vote for MAM ones. They saved my DS from having to re learn to suckle and get used to a bottle again when he was on a ventilator for a month in hospital.
