How to help a 5 week old baby when they are constipated?

Are they definitely constipated OP?

When was the last time they had a poo? Is LO crying?

Can you call your health visitor in the morning? The nature of the posts you’ve started is concerning and it sounds like you need help.

My dd, now 5 months, went through changes in her poo schedule. At first it was multiple times a day, then settled to one a day for ages, then two weeks of 2-3 day gaps and now she's back to her regular once a day (sometimes twice). What time trying to say is that your LO might not be constipated but this is just a change they are going through. As pp asked, are they crying? If they seem in pain it may be constipation, or colic.

My hv suggested giving cooled down boiled water in a bottle to give her that extra hydration to move things along. We never needed to do it but it was a simple option to help.

Not criticising. You have suggested - in quick succession - that you have left your 5 week old baby to cry, that they have colic and now potentially constipation. You need practical support from a professional, bot an Internet forum

Google baby massage for constipation. There are lots of techniques you can watch videos of....circling the legs, circular rubbing off the tummy, reflexology. Worked wonders with my baby.

Courtney609 · 21/01/2019 22:08

I didn't say I left my baby cry I said is it okay to leave your baby to cry as I been told by some people let him cry if that's the case you would have seen on the comments that some other people said they left them to cry now I would really appreciate if you don't have advice don't comment with criticism thanks

It's pretty much unavoidable to never leave your baby to cry for a few minutes, especially if they are colicky. It's fine.

With my first baby I responded almost instantly to every cry or grumble, with my second I wait a little while first to see if she'll settle herself.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/01/2019 22:16

I hope you didn't read my post as criticism Courtney, I was just trying to understand a bit more about what's going on.

What's baby up to now and how are you feeling? Smile

SarahET · 21/01/2019 22:19

Have you tried swaddling if baby is struggling to sleep? You can get the GroSnug type which are good for their hips.
