Coping with a toddler and a c-section

I'm expecting DC2 in a few months. It's fairly likely (but not certain) that I'll need a c-section.

DD is 26 months and is still in a cot bed (it's the size of a toddler bed but has sides up). She naps for 1-2 hours in the day and goes down at night without a problem and stays asleep all night. I know that is very lucky! She's never tried to climb out of the cot.

I've been trying to lift her less to save my back while pregnant, but now I'm thinking how I would cope after a c-section. Should I be getting her into a toddler bed rather than cot now? If I have a c-section I don't think I'll be able to lift her in and out of the cot.

I know we've got a sweet deal with her sleep now, so part of me doesn't want to risk it. Another part of me thinks it would be a terrible idea to have to switch her to a normal bed just as the baby comes, both for her and for us coping with possible night wakings/dropping her nap!

Any ideas?

Can you get a step stool so she can climb in and out by herself? I don’t know if that would work.

You do have a few months though, so I’d probably look to do the transition to a bed ASAP. We moved my DS to his new room a month before the new baby (he was about the same age) and he was totally fine. He had been sleeping in a cot bed with the side off for a few months, but we moved him to a single bed so we could have the nursery and cot for the baby. He was very excited about his big boy bed. A few months is a long time for a toddler

Hm, maybe I'll try that! Thanks :)
