Babys sore hands

Hi! My 5 month DS loves chewing his hands (he’s teething and sucks his thumb for comfort)

But he’s started to get really sore around his favourite thumb and finger - to the point where it’s red and I think the tooth that’s coming through has cut the skin ever so slightly

Is there anything I can do/should do?

I'd be tempted just to leave it as you wouldn't really want to put anything on his hand that could go in his mouth. Will he take a teething toy instead? Or a comforter?

Google teething mitt/mitten. There's loads out there, haven't used for my kids so can't recommend you any particular one but they may just protect his hand.

He will take teething toys and has mittens and all
manner of teething toys - he just prefers his hand

Think I’ll just see how he goes then. Hopefully it doesnt get much worse

Yeah, stick one of his teething mittens on his favourite hand to encourage him to chew the other one for a bit. My DD is this same. She managed a proper scratch on her hand last week with her newly-erupted teeth.

What about trying lanolin nipple cream that is safe for feeding to help with the soreness. I use mine as lip balm when my lips get super dry

That’s such a good idea @ewan! I’ll give it a go!
