Aibu to let my son do 'girly' things?

I think I already know the answer to this one but I just feel I need to talk to someone about this.

My son is 5 and he's started taking an interest in his appearance etc. I sometimes find him sat at my dressing table putting on make up, at my mums he puts her perfume on and today he asked to wear one of my bracelets.

To my parents and my brother, this is completely wrong and he'll end up gay Hmm they tell him it isn't for boys, only for girls. Even the perfume which is daft as aftershave is the same under a different name.

I really don't believe it'll have an effect on him, it's just play. He sees me put on make up and he wants to do the same. And if it turns out I do accidentally turn him gay (ha!) I couldn't care less. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest!

It makes me sad how horrified the people in my life react to things like this. When he asked to wear one of my bracelets earlier I explained to him that some people believe some things are for boys and some are for girls. I told him I don't believe that and asked him what he thought, he said he wanted to wear it anyway and he would tell them they are wrong if they comment.

Interested to hear what others thoughts and experiences of this sort of thing are?

I feel like my family are making a mountain out of a mole hill!

When ds (not the gay one) was about 7/8 he told his school bff he would kiss him one day - school were all for having ds removed from school for such a statement!! Uproar by the the dm!! Was ridiculous.
Maybe have to backtrack and see what toys he had that year!!

Ah, oops. Ds2 loved his Princess Sofia dress so much for a while when he was 2, he wanted to sleep in it. (He also had a matching tiara).
Better start collecting rainbow themed items now.

Oh yes, apart from the toy kitchen my son had no stereotypical gay traits at all.

Bloody hell, I didn't realist only gay men could cook. What a revelation!

Oh that's rediculous!! My brother has 3 sisters (including me of course) and one night he wanted to dress up as a girl so we put him in a dress, did his make up and put all the jewellery on him and he danced around and pouted his lips! It was sooo cute and funny 😁 we had a great time! He was just playing around. Leave him be and tell your family to sod off.

I of course know cooking is not gay, I was defending the bigots who thought an ELc kitchen was a game changer
