My mum passed away recently and my six year old says that she would like to come with me to see mum at the cfuneral home, but I dont think she understands and I dont think she should see her, what should I do?

I would try to persuade not to. Tell her your DM has left her body. It won’t be her DGM she sees. Try to help her focus on her happy memories of her DGM.

You know your child best. I remember going to funerals as a child though and don't think it bothered me. It was part of a process of mourning. It actually gave me a framework to deal with things.

I wouldn’t. I saw my mum when she passed away and it was hugely comforting to me as a 30-something adult. But the six year old me would have been scared and confused. My husband was about 11 when he saw his grandfather in his casket and says he wishes him parents hadn’t have taken him as it gave him nightmares.

I wouldn't, I saw my stepmum at hospital and the funeral home after she died and last year I was with my dad when he died, but I chose not to go and see him at the funeral home. I don't think a 6 year old would fully understand.

Share lots of photographs together and funny, nice stories about your mum. Perhaps she could make a card that you can take to put in with your mum or drawing.

I'm sorry for your loss Flowers

I lost my mum at 20, I took the decision not to visit, I’m glad I didn’t. I remember who she was, I saw her in death and it was horrible, didn’t need more bad memories
