How do you wash and dry your babies clothes?

What am I doing wrong - everything shrinks!

I have an 18 month old and 4 month old, live in a flat so no outdoor drying facilities however I do own a tumble dryer.

I wash on either a quick 40 or 30 degrees and usually only tumble our own clothes etc and always put the babies clothes on an airer indoors. However since Christmas that's gone out the window as we just haven't had the space to put one up again yet so I have been tumbling all their stuff too (only on low heat though). But even when I was air drying the clothes they were still shrinking! Is this a normal baby clothes issue or am I missing something here?

Air drying and washing at 30 or 40 shouldn't shrink anything - this sounds silly, but you're sure they're not just growing fast? And they're just regular cotton items?

I wash at 30 for colours and 30 or 60 for whites and bedding depending on fabrics/soiling, then in winter tumble dry at full heat and still don't usually have shrinkage problems unless I accidentally stick a woolen or polyester item in.

Other one - could your washing machine or dryer have a faulty thermostat? There must be a way to test for this...

My 2 definitely grow fast they are big for their ages, but the clothes definitely do shrink because I've compared items that have been washed next to brand new of the same size and there is a fair bit of difference.

Hmm I never thought about a fault, probably unlikely with the washing machine though as I have had 2 since my toddler was born and it was the same for both.
