DS keeps pulling willy out

21 month old DS keeps pulling his willy out of his nappy, mainly at night and the consequence is obviously weeing everywhere. We have explained willy stays in and telling him off for pulling it out but it's getting so exasperating now. We have tried pull ups, normal nappies, cloth nappies, nappies on backwards and zipped/poppered onesies on normal and back to front and nothing stops it. Last night i was watching on the monitor and went in over 8x to remove his hand from waistband. Had to put a nappy cover over nappy super tight but he just breathes in creates a gap and pulls nappy down to get it out. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I had one mother I spoke to telling me he was just being like an animal and marking his territory... is it just a phase? I know boys like playing with it but this is getting so annoying.
My parents have "suggested" potty training but he's not very verbal and can't tell us when he needs to go and he screams anywhere near the potty (which is out and he occasionally shows interest but nothing more).
Help please!!?

Oh dear! When my youngest had a similar phase we actually gave him a lot of nappy free time in the day - for a while he was pretty much constantly playing with it but then it was like the novelty wore off!

So maybe if he gets more time in the day he won’t pull it out so much at night.

I'm curious as to how he manages to do that with a zipper all in one on!!!
not going to stop of buy could you put one of those puppy pad things down to at least minimise the mess

What about the type of romper that doesn't open down the front, but the poppers go along the legs and you pull it over their head to get it on?

He doesn't need to get space skin on skin. He just sort of breathes in and makes a gap and still (despite a zip or full body garment covering) manages to make enough space to wiggle it out even through clothing. He's too clever for his own good sometimes 🙄

Straight jacket? I think you will just have to grin and bear it until he gets over it.

Gaffer Tape?

(Sorry, not helpful)

Pull ups and all on one vest on backwards.

sleepycat13 · 18/01/2019 13:06

grobag?

Buy a waterproof sheet and accept it’s a phase!
Don’t tell him off for it, he’s so little he doesn’t understand the consequence of his actions yet. If you just deal with it practically and don’t add any extra ‘attention’ it might help him get over this phase quicker too.
He definitely sounds like a little Houdini though!!

Thanks all for your helpful replies.
Last night he was in a pull up, a poppered up vest and a onesie that poppered underneath. This morning all poppers were intact and yet just the tip had managed to be pulled out somehow and he and they bed were soaking wet. Again. The nappy is tight fitting (well not to leave a mark or anything but it's in no way loose) and sizing down don't fit him anymore so can't try that.

I have considered putting neoprene swim nappy over nappy but I don't suppose that's very healthy wearing it all night?

Have you tried a bigger sized nappy so it come up a lot higher?

BusterGonad · 19/01/2019 07:03

Like Simon Cowell's trousers! 😂

loveskaka · 19/01/2019 07:04

Sorry but this is quite funny, how does he manage that?.... I am laughing now while sitting here with my 13month old DS 😩. Something to look forward to!

troubleswillbeoutofsight · 19/01/2019 07:47

Try putting the night time nappy on back to front. Worked with my boys

IWantMyHatBack · 19/01/2019 07:51

Yes, go up a nappy size so the waistband is higher and get the ones that have a stretchy back so you can do it up tighter.

anniehm · 19/01/2019 08:00

My DD's has all in one sleep suits that zipped up the front no poppers with feet built in - unless he has the dexterity to undo a zip he won't get out of it, just adjust bedding accordingly as they are warm

hannah1992 · 19/01/2019 08:02

My friends son does this. He's just turned 2. HV said to out a baby grow on backwards so he couldn't unpop it but he still managed. No idea why but waterproof mattress protector will be your friend here for now
