Advice re milk for 20 month old

Hi, I am hoping that a more experienced parent can give some useful advice.

DD (20 months) had a stomach bug last week: she was sick 3 times on Wednesday night. Temperature was normal, took her to the GP the following morning, he said it was most likely a virus. Kept her off nursery and offered bland food (toast etc). Didn't give her milk as I know lactose can upset your stomach after vomiting. She was ok at the weekend, a bit quieter than usual and not eating as much as usual, but hadn't been sick again. She went back to nursery on Monday and has been generally fine, although she hasn't been eating as much as usual and has had quite loose stools. They have been keeping an eye on her temperature, which has been normal.

She already looks a bit skinnier than pre-virus and I don't want her not to get calcium etc, so we have been trying lactose-free milk (LactoFree) for the last few days. It hasn't made her vomit (a plus) but her stools are still quite loose and I wonder whether it's disagreeing with her or whether this is just because she's not fully recovered.

Has anyone had experience of using lactose free or soy/plant milks temporarily (while stomach flora for lactose digestion replenish) and what worked? She normally has a beaker of milk before nursery in the morning and in the evening, and I am keen to give her milk of some kind while she recovers, so that she is getting reasonable amounts of calcium and doesn't lose too much weight. Would soy/oat milk be less likely to upset her stomach?

Any assistance would be very welcome.

I'm no expert, I could be wrong but I'm sure those milks r much lower in calories than whole milk so won't help with the weight gain side of things

Is just give her normal milk again to be honest; if she’s been back at nursery since Monday then I’m assuming she hasn’t been sick and will be fine to have it.
If she was sick over the course of one night only I doubt it’ll have knocked her much

Unless she has developed lactose intolerance as a result (which is possible but not common), I’d just offer normal milk.

I’ve never withheld or changed milk after a stomach bug. I would say stick with it only if you notice an adverse reaction.

Just give her whole milk. There’s no medical reason why you shouldn’t. The advice for diarrhoea in children is actually to let them eat normally if they want to

My DD is dairy free due to an intolerance. Suitable non dairy mills are alpro growing up milk and oatley barista.

Really helpful, so thank you to everyone who replied. Will try reintroducing regular milk at the weekend and see how It goes.
