1YO not mobile, referred to paediatrician

DD has just turned 1 and is not mobile - not bumshuffling, not crawling, not walking. Can stand, but puts more weight on one leg than the other.

She was transverse until 36 weeks, so was referred to routine hip scan as a newborn just in case. We were told everything looks good and there's no need to come back.

Now we have begun to ring alarm bells and have been referred to paediatrician and physiotherapist by our HV, who said she herself couldn't see anything obviously wrong (no uneven leg creases). She has also advised us to ask to be referred by GP for another hip scan.

I have read online that, if it's hip dysplasia, by age 1 it requires major surgery that often must be repeated as it's not always successful. It all sounds very grim... Would appreciate anyone sharing their experience if your DC had trouble in this area.

My twins were both transverse and neither crawled until just after their first birthday. They're 6 now and really sporty and athletic, super tall too after being tiny for so long.

The referral will set your mind at ease either way.

DD got referred to the paediatrician as she wasn't mobile coming up to 1 (and didn't really roll either, but could sit). The paed said everything looked OK, come back in 3 months. But shortly after the appointment, a week after her 1st birthday, she finally crawled. She then walked at 16 months.

So it's possible that everything could be OK x

My DD has a uneven leg crease on her right thigh, so was referred to a consultant as HV & GP were worried about her, as she wasn't mobile at 12 months. But within a couple of weeks of this happening, she just started crawling!

But personally I think 12 months is too young to be overly concerned about lack of movement, as some babies never crawl and some walk around 15/16 months. Xx

I had a family member who was completely non-mobile until 14 months, at that point they stood for the first time and started walking a few days later.

They have no health problems and even did several forms of dance semi professionally.

My mum frequently tells me that I just sat there doing sod all until I was 15 months :0 then I just decided to walk 😂 for what its worth, my lo is 9 months and still isn't crawling. Just sits there looking wobbly, most of his mates are mobile. Oh and I'm totally healthy :3

Oh, and he doesn't roll over yet, just on his side aha
