Brexit Formula Stockpiling

Hi all. My 8 week old is on Aptamil. I have tried to find out where Aptamil is made to see if there may be importing issues if a no deal Brexit occurs, but I cant find any information. Does anyone know where it is produced? Is anyone stockpiling formula or other baby items in the event that imports are disrupted come the end of March?

Really? Those scare tactics clearly worked on you then Hmm

The Ocado website says "produce of the EU" and another website suggests it's made in Ireland. I'm stockpiling. Pop over to the preppers board for more understanding than from the above poster. It's understandable to be worried that you might not be able I feed your baby.

rubyroot .... really? I am taking precautions so I dont end up with an 8 week old baby with no food. But you are very helpful. Thank you for your input.

Thank you londonloves! I will take a look.

I actually called Aptamil to check with them if they have a plan for such a scenario and they gave me no assurance. So I am also going to start on stockpiling now. The problem is that my daughter eats the ready to feed one as the powder causes her colic, so it will be taking loads of space...I asked Aptamil where the milk is produced. They confirmed that some of its milk is produced in Ireland and others in other countries in the EU, so the UK definitely imports it. The UK produces only one sort of formula milk which is Kendamil and I don't know anyone who uses it...

Cow and gate also produced in Ireland from what I can tell from the packaging.

I read that the government will be stockpiling formula to ensure babies are fed... Although not sure how much of a comfort that is. As far as I know, all formula except for kendamil is imported, but kendamil would presumably never be able to meet demand if others were in short supply. I use kendamil because I like the fact it is made in the UK, baby seems OK on it, although perhaps a bit more sicky at times. We've discussed it... Not stockpiling, but will try to keep a few extra incase it is not always available locally. If babies are not able to be fed after brexit then things are far far worse than anyone could even imagine. It must be a priority for the govt. Let me see if I can find the article about it

SqidgeBum · 24/01/2019 09:55

I have decided to slightly stockpile by buying an extra 10 every week between now and brexit. If brexit doesn't happen then I don't have to buy formula for a while, but if it does happen and there are important problems then I don't have to worry about getting her food. I would have scoffed at this whole preppers thing before having a baby but now it's a case of being ok with being scoffed at as long as you are sure your baby has food and is ok.

*extra tin, not extra 10. Imagine!

Also think about nappies, calpol, teething gel , get some reusable wipes maybe.
I totally agree - I have absolutely zero fucks about being scoffed at now.

We use SMA organic and have bought enough for the next few months until our baby turns one (and can have cows milk), turns out it was a good idea even without Brexit concerns because SMA have discontinued it and our baby won’t drink the non organic version.

I think it’s a sensible thing to do if only to protect yourself from price rises.

(We also bought dog food because it’s cheap at the moment).
