didnt end up with either so cant comment specifically, but what put me off Joie highchairs was the material seats, a plastic covered seat is so much easier to simply wipe down after every meal.

Cutesbabasmummy · 16/01/2019 15:19

Honestly get the IKEA antiliop! Everyone ends up with one in the end!

KeptTheBeachesShipwreckFree · 16/01/2019 15:28

I just did a Google because I'd never heard of either and I nearly fell through the floor - £130 for a highchair?!

We just used a 2nd (or even 3rd) hand plastic thing that we were given. So long as you can strap the child in, can adjust the table and can easily clean it, it'll be fine. It didn't "grow with the child" as this one is meant to but we just got booster seats that strapped on to the dining table chairs when they were bigger, which was better for us as they could then sit at the table and eat with us.

Ikea antilop is the only high chair. OH and I rejoice when they have them at restaurants. DS still fits in it ours 2.5yrs old. Easy wipe down with no crevices and cheap as chips.

myotherbagisgucci · 17/01/2019 07:04

You can't get better than the Ikea antilop! It's easy to keep clean and very inexpensive!

DontBiteYourSisterPlease · 17/01/2019 07:09

I've had a Joie for 3 years, the Mimzy LX. It looks nice, lovely cushions, goes up and down, trays clip on and off etc. It does. Not. Clean. Seriously. It's an absolute fucker. I hate the thing. The cushions don't clean properly and every nook and cranny doesn't clean properly and it's filthy all the time. I want to give it to charity but I can't get it clean enough.

I went to Aldi the other day and bought their copy of the IKEA Antilop. It's was £10.99. Life. Revolutionised. I've spent precisely 30 seconds cleaning it after every meal and then got on with my life and it looks perfect and so clean. I love it.

Wallsbangers · 17/01/2019 07:16

Another vote for the IKEA one. Aldi and Asda do their own versions.

TulipsInbloom1 · 17/01/2019 07:18

As above. Dont do it. Get the Ikea one.

EssentialHummus · 17/01/2019 07:19

Yep, just get the Antilop. If only all aspects of parenting were this straightforward and cheap.

Lelly78 · 17/01/2019 07:19

If you want a posh one, look at Tripp Trapp. We love ours:)

shewhocan · 17/01/2019 07:23

IKEA Ken here too. So brilliant.

Trip trap when they get a bit older

shewhocan · 17/01/2019 07:24

Did I mention that the Ikea one is about £13?

BikeRunSki · 17/01/2019 07:24

Get a big padded chair with lots of features and reclining positions. Preferably with a fabric cover.

Realise that it is a beast to clean, store and transport.

Replace it with an Ikea Antilop, realise your high chair related problems have disappeared and rue the day you spent £150 on anything else.

Or, take the advice from every single high chair thread on here for the last 10 years and skip the first step and just go straight for the Ikea Antilop. Available to test at cafes and restaurants around the world..

TeddyIsaHe · 17/01/2019 07:25

IKEA Antilop! You don’t want material anywhere on a high chair - babies are hideously messy and it’s an utter pain to clean. And put the (huge) difference into starting up a savings account for your dc. Much better idea than an expensive highchair.

TillyTheTiger · 17/01/2019 07:27

We bought a Chicco Polly 3 in 1 and I hated it -it's impossible to clean. Got an ikea antilop after a couple of months and it's the best. Just don't bother with anything else.

Charlottejade89 · 17/01/2019 08:12

we've got one from mybabiie which I thought would be ideal because it folds down so easier to store, but I wish I'd just bought the basic one from Aldi now. I can get the straps tight enough on my dd so I have to put a tea towel inbetween otherwise she slips down

ThePastafarian · 17/01/2019 09:46

Get the Ikea one! MiL refused to get it for us when we asked, because she wanted to get us a 'nice' one. I think it was a John Lewis one in the end. Pain in the arse! Seat slants back to far, stupid over-the-shouler straps, tray too high, and the crevices - oh, the mouldy crevices! My parents bought the Ikea one to have at their house and we stole it! Sooooo much better! Fit her at 6 months, still works at almost 2.5. You can get an inflatable cushion with it that props them up when they're little - removable and washable. It's the best one by a mile!

babysharkah · 17/01/2019 09:55

We bought the Tripp traps for dts. One of the best things we bought they still use them now age 8, and I use them when I wfh - so comfortable for working at the computer.

Cutesbabasmummy · 17/01/2019 10:21

I never really get why people like the idea of reclining high chairs - why would your child want to recline when they are eating?! Good to see the outpouring of love for the antilop! They really are the best!

HarrietM87 · 17/01/2019 10:50

Just echoing the love for the antilop - it’s perfect.

Montybabe · 17/01/2019 11:03

Agree with the stokke Tripp trap. My daughter is still using hers at 10. Definitely worth the investment.

ThePug · 17/01/2019 14:45

If you've got that budget get the Babybjorn - all the benefits of the IKEA one but much better (easier to get in &out, folds, has foot support, holds smaller baby in good position without needing an insert). I have two, both second hand. My 4.5 month old is in one and my almost 3 year old still uses his!
