Baby wearing: sling wrap hurting shoulders

Baby has just turned 3 months and since she was tiny we've been using one of those long stretchy sling wraps as a baby carrier which she tends to fall asleep in when I'm walking the dog. But it's started to really hurt my weak shoulder, is there a way to tie it that will be easier on my shoulder? Or alternatively anyone have any other baby carriers they recommend for weak shoulders? Thanks

Have you gone to a sling library to try other types and styles? You can hire them for a fairly cheap price. I know NCT do them but others might as well!

Aw I haven't, thanks x

The increased weight around 3 months with my boys meant that stretchy wraps no longer felt comfy. I switched to buckle carriers and Mei tai at this age.

I'd definitely try a sling library if there is one local to you. I found the stretchy wrap great for the first few weeks then moved to an ergo. I have back and shoulder problems but find the ergo brilliant, no pain, can carry son for a coup of hours, and he still settles / sleeps in it, or did until recently (now will only nap in cot or car seat). He's now 11 months, I still use it and sure I will for a while. You can pick them up much cheaper on eBay too.

You may need to spread the passes more on the shoulders to spread the weight away from your neck and over the top of your arm. You could also try shoulder flips. Make sure the wrap is tight enough - otherwise your shoulders will take the weight as it pulls downwards.
Also - there is a big scale of stretchyness across different brands of stretchy wrap. Some will just be too stretchy once the baby weighs a bit more, and this may be what’s causing your issue. I carried in a stretchy for almost 9 months but a more stretchy wrap than the one I used wasn’t comfortable beyond 5 months

Woven wrap, buckled or mai tai. Much more support across your whole shoulders abs back. Get to a sling library if you can, it really helps. Try as many as possible then go on fb and look at "affordable baby slings for sale or swap" if you don't want to pay full price.

Avoid eBay for new bargains as they're sometimes fakes.

You can sort of fan the passes out over your shoulders like a shawl, that distributes the weight a bit more (so it doesn’t cut in). But yes three months is the limit for proper stretchy wraps.

We moved onto a Manduca and it is still going strong now DS is two, but do go to a sling library, different carriers fit different body shapes (wanted an Ergo but it was too long and wide in the shoulders for me).

Thanks for your suggestions, I do love baby wearing to walk the dog!
