breastfeeding smoke on steroids

I've just been diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. Gah. In hospital waiting for dr to come round and write big fat prescription for steroids. I really, really don't want to stop breastfeeding 8mo ds. Anyone here bf while on a probably hefty dose of steroids?

TIA

Sad

I would ask the dr for advice to be honest. Some may be ok, others not so much

not convinced re real expertise on bf among drs tbh but thanks

Just to update: very nice dr checked it out for me. Confirmed that even though it's a high dose of steroids (60 something), it is still safe to keep bf, just not in four hours after taking daily tablet.

I had Bells Palsy a couple of years ago, it was awful. I hope you recover quickly :) I was almost fully back to normal after 2 weeks of steroids. In the first week I saw literally no improvement so was panicking but was much better after another week so don't worry if you don't see an immediate improvement.

OstrichRunning · 12/01/2019 16:03

Thanks FuchsiaG, two weeks would be great. by any chance do you remember if you had any movement in your forehead? I still have some (thought less than on unaffected side) and that's got them deliberating as to whether or not to do an mri to rule out anything more sinister. They already did a ct scan, which came back clear.

I had no movement at all in the left side of my face. If I tried to raise my eyebrows my worry lines literally went half way across my forehead as the affected side didn't move at all. I didn't have any scans, they just diagnosed me from seeing me. I think the first bit of movement to return was in my mouth, it began as a tingling sensation.

Good luck! It's a scary thing when it happens. I thought I was having a stroke.

OstrichRunning · 15/01/2019 10:57

thanks again Fuchsia, mine is just as you describe, it was just still evolving in hospital. At least stroke was ruled out, that was my fear too. Today when I try to blow out my cheeks I am very slightly more successful than yesterday so hoping I'll have as speedy a recovery as you had. Scary stuff- did not see this coming!

No problem :) I hope you recover quickly, it's a horrible and scary thing to have. I think as long as you started taking the steroids within 72 hours you're more likely to make a full recovery (that's what I was told) x
