Overnight hotel stay with newborn?

Crazy idea?
Me and DP have a 4 week old baby , we are living with my parents for a few months while saving for a house deposit, so baby is used to his grandma and grandad as he sees them every day.
Me and DP have always enjoyed random nights away in a hotel in a nearby city (1 hour away) for a break away from my parents (nothing wrong with them but nice to be alone) now we haven't been for ages, since I was heavily pregnant and now we have baby, but are thinking of going when baby is 6/7 weeks old and taking him with us

It would be at a Travelodge or premier Inn for one night. I'm mainly concerned about (he is formula fed) sterilising bottles-sterilising tablets and bucket?
Milk -ready made formula?
Sleep- there will be a cot but also taking pram so could sleep in either

My parents have offered to have him for the night so we can go alone if we want, but id rather take him, I love going out with him in the pram, it's a shopping centre type place we are going to all indoors.

Would it be do able? Or bad idea. My partner has a rare weekend off so would be lovely to go away

Why wouldn't it? Babies are very portable. Don't feel you have to take everything including the kitchen sink. Sterilising tablets & ready made milk cartons sound easiest (but I don't know much about bottles). Enjoy your night away.

First time we stayed in a hotel, baby was 5 days old! When we stayed away I took a plug in tommee tippee steriliser and a Moses basket, was so nice to relax with baby and not worry about house work!

I'd mainly be worried about people in the rooms next to you! Does he cry much in the night? I'd be pissed off if I had disrupted sleep with a baby next door in a hotel, sorry...
Also does he need dark and quiet to sleep? We tried travelodge with DD once and once only, as we had to sit quietly in the dark from 6.30.
You can get plug-in steam sterilisers, might be able to get one cheap or borrow one?

Leave baby with your parents and have a lovely night out - you've got years to take him out in his Oran!

Oran??? PRAM!

I’ve taken my dd away now four times (she’s 12 weeks). I just take Milton tablets and a large Tupperware and sterilise bottles in that. I take ready made just for ease because I didn’t want to faff with powder in a hotel. I took my Moses basket but you could obviously take the pram. Enjoy!

Thanks all! He's not a big crier, even in the night so think we'd be fine there. Seems like it won't be too impossible, think we may go for it!

Before they’re mobile, it’s quite easy. Assuming you’re driving, just bring it all with you. It’s easy to wash up bottles in a washing up bowl and then I just brought an electric steriliser with my ff one. Bring formula, make as usual with kettle, if there’s no fridge, then just use ready made overnight.

Alternatively, you’ll likely find an AirBnB for a similar price and it does make life easier with a kitchen.

Go for it; once they have a bedtime it’s much harder so make the most of the early weeks/months for weekends away.

MummySharkBabyShark · 12/01/2019 03:32

If it’s just for a night can you take enough sterilised and reassembled bottles with you for the time away and then just pour in ready made formula when needed.

Enjoy you will have a great time.

I'd go for it. We went away when DD was about 8weeks. Chose a hotel that catered for families though. Could book babysitter for room, the kids club had a kitchen we could use for sterilising, old building with thick walls, rooms big enough to accommodate carrycot without feeling squished. When you book could you ask for a room big enough to take all your baby paraphernalia and where you won't have to worry about disturbing other guests (end of corridor?)
