Nappies always leak!!

Please can someone advise, my dd2 is 14 weeks and almost daily leaks out her nappy when doing a poo. The nappy itself is never full but she seems to explode at the top all over her back. I have tried Pampers, Kit & Kin, Waitrose own brand, and am currently trialliang sainsburys. I've tried sizes 3 & 4 - she isn't a fat baby but she has quite large thighs. Can anyone recommend any other nappies...?? Thank you!

Hi OP, we use Aldi nappies and they've always been really good

Jackshouse · 11/01/2019 15:30

Are you making sure the ruffles are untucked?

WTBE · 11/01/2019 16:02

I had this problem! I tried aldi, lidl, pampers and Tesco and had the same issue or my baby had a reaction!
Asda little angels brand are the best ones I've tried so far no leakage!

Is she breastfed? If so it's pretty standard.

I tried many nappies but it wasn't until I weaned that both of mine stopped their daily poosplosions.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 11/01/2019 16:09

I think it’s just a case of trying them out until you get one that fits your baby. The Sainsbury’s Eco ones seemed to fit my DC.

reallybadidea · 11/01/2019 16:13

The only thing I found that stopped poo explosions like this is waterproof nappy wraps that are made to go with cloth nappies. You don't need to be using cloth nappies, just put them over the top of the disposable. Because the waistband is elasticated it keeps them all in. You don't need a clean wrap each time, just if it gets dirty and then a clean one each morning. You can sling them in the wash with everything else. Saved me a lot of mess and yucky baby clothes.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 11/01/2019 16:13

Ruffles untucked, and make sure the top is quite tight but there's enough space under her bottom to make space for a big poo (like a poo bag Xmas Sad)

Some just do, DS3 was always an explosive pooer, I had to buy loads new for ds4 as everything was so stained!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 11/01/2019 16:13

Agree too that it’s fairly standard if you’re BFing. At that age my DD went every 12 days. There wasn’t a nappy on earth that was going to contain that poonami ShockGrin

Stuckforthefourthtime · 11/01/2019 16:14

No idea why I put a sad Santa there, was an accident!

Jackshouse · 11/01/2019 16:15

Well if he had to deal with poo explosions too he would be sad.

Smile19 · 11/01/2019 22:35

Not on topic but I wish someone had told me.... fairy liquid on stains after you've washed out the initial disaster, then in the wash - poo stains come out(!) Hooray.

HumpHumpWhale · 11/01/2019 22:43

I found that if I folded the top of the back down slightly - inwards - it caught the poo going up the back.
Imo lidl nappies are the best now, but I liked boots too, I found them the best when I had my first.

Are sizes 3 and 4 not very big for a 14 week old??
My chunky 13 month old isn't long in size 4s...

Wallsbangers · 11/01/2019 22:57

Is her vest the right size? I'm sure I read on MN that nappies leak more if the vest is too small. We're team Aldi nappies.

GloatyMcGloatface · 11/01/2019 22:59

Lidls were great.

OutPinked · 12/01/2019 05:34

Reusable nappies avoid this for the most part. DS is breastfed and has had a fair few explosions but only a couple have reached his clothing.

IfYouLikeALotOfChocolate · 12/01/2019 05:38

Size 4 (or even 3) must be massive surely? I can squeeze my two year old into a 4 at a push.

figelnarage · 12/01/2019 07:50

We found Aldi the best for newborn then Sainsbury's when DS got a bit bigger as they have an elasticated back. Pampers always leaked no matter what size.

Bobfossil2 · 12/01/2019 08:01

My 12 week old is in size 4s, surely it depends on the weight of your baby?

sar302 · 12/01/2019 08:24

My 13 month old who ways nearly 11kg is in size four nappies - most often they are for babies 9-15kg. I can't believe that your 14 week old is 9kg! Mine wasn't at that age and he's always been a hefalump.
Have you confused lbs with kg and buying the wrong size nappies? Not a judgement by the way - I just know what baby brain did to me in the early days!

sar302 · 12/01/2019 08:28

*weighs 🙄

Bobfossil2 · 12/01/2019 08:29

The front of my size 4 pack says 7-18kg and 15-40lbs.
My 12 week old is almost 16lbs so that wouldn’t be inappropriate sizing, although she’s mainly in 3s still and 4s at night.
Maybe the OPs baby is that size too.

sar302 · 12/01/2019 08:46

Fair enough 🤷‍♀️ just goes to show how much these things differ!

thisisreallyfunny · 12/01/2019 16:15

Thanks for your messages! My dd is 7kg and has chunky things. Sainsbury's own brand seem to be doing the trick so far. My first dd was a bf baby and never did poosplosions like dd2!! I will be trying the other suggestions if we encounter another one...!! X
