What age did your DC drop to one nap?

My DS2 is 10 months, been an amazing sleeper until now (unlike DS1 who is almost 5 and still doesn't sleep through the night...), but is suddenly not sleeping well... and i am just trying to work through why... at the moment he naps 9.30/10-10.30/11ish, then again 12.30-2ish. Can't remember when they tend to drop that morning nap...

I’m not sure but DS is 1 and seems to be ready to go down to one nap... watching with interest!

at 1 year, then somewhere between 12-17 months (shes 17 months now) we switched from a morning nap to an afternoon nap.

DonaldDucksTowel · 09/01/2019 13:04

My youngest turns 1 in a few weeks and has dropped her second nap over the last few days
I’m trying to push that morning nap to a bit later now to get her through till bedtime otherwise she loses her mind by about 4pm
It’s a fun stage 🙄

Youngest was 14mo, now at 17mo he’s started napping a bit later. Before his morning nap was 9.30-11ish and it would be a looong afternoon.

His sleep has also gone to shit though Confused

Probably around 16-18 months. My 2nd is 10 months and definitely no where close to only needing one nap, somedays he might even still have 3 (short ones, mostly due to interruptions doing the school run).

BloodyBing · 09/01/2019 16:27

16 months, she is trying to do one nap now.
I'm trying to stop her as the tea time melt downs are a nightmare.

Lana1234 · 09/01/2019 18:53

Probably was just before DS turned one. He’s now 16 months and looking like he’s switching from a morning nap to an afternoon one instead

Caterina99 · 09/01/2019 19:03

My DS around 12m and DD around 13m. They both did the same, napped at the normal morning time 9-10.30ish and then refused to nap in the afternoon until it was really late and affected bedtime. So I pushed back the morning nap to lunch time.

My DD is 15m now and usually naps from around 1-3 daily. We have to start at 1 due to nursery pick up. I think she’d prefer to nap around 12

Mine is 19 months and doesn't have any naps. She's a great sleeper at night but a nap during the day means about an hour trying to get her to bed at night. Yesterday she fell asleep in the car for about 5 minutes around 4.45 and it took an hour to get her to sleep whereas if she's awake all day she drops of as soon as she's in her cot.

PivotPivotPivottt · 09/01/2019 19:10

Sorry meant to say from at around 10 months she was having a nap mid morning and then awake until bed time.

Orlande · 09/01/2019 21:12

user1493413286 · 09/01/2019 21:15

About 12 months with the childminder but more like 14-15 with me

boopdoop · 09/01/2019 21:36

Thanks everyone. I think at 10 months it might be a bit soon to drop off his early nap. Thank you!

Went from his two naps which were 12.30 until 1.30 and then 5 until 6. It was taking him at least 20 mins to fall asleep and getting harder for us to fit two naps in and then get him to bed at a decent time and he had to have a late lunch after first nap. We transitioned at 11 1/2 months. Hes a year now and still not sure whether he was quite ready for it- he now sleeps 3-5 and gets up at 9.30. Bedtime is 9 and it takes him 30 mins of sucking on bunny before he's asleep. He's not having any meltdowns and so far is a happy boy, though was rubbing his eyes at 11.30 today.

rubyroot · 09/01/2019 21:52

@boopdoop, 10 months is probably too soon. Though I have read when transitioning that on some days they need one nap and on others two. You could try this. For us it was just getting difficult to stick to two naps and have time to do anything as he naps at home in cot. I have recently started to just have days where we abandon routine and go with the flow. As long as he's out doing stuff he is fine and will nap 30 mins here and there in car and pushchair etc to keep him going.

caffeinebuzz · 09/01/2019 21:54

Alternated one/two nap days from 16-19 months, then consistently just the one after that.

WhenLifeGivesYouLemonsx · 09/01/2019 23:10

My DS is 2 and he dropped down to one nap when he turned 1. He still has one nap every morning (11am-1pm)

brookshelley · 09/01/2019 23:12

15 months with DC1. DC2 is 13 months and definitely not ready for just one. Your baby is probably having a growth spurt affecting sleep rather than dropping down to one nap.

christmasrobin · 09/01/2019 23:16

Dd is 18 months and she's been having 1 nap after lunch for, well I can't even remember how long. Definitely by the time she was 1 though as we had a day out planned for her birthday and only had to work around the 1 nap.

All babies are different - maybe yours is ready, maybe not. Only you can make that judgement
