comfort blankets - when to get rid of?

Hi,
DS is now 20 months old, and though we usually limit the use of his comfort blankets (he has 3) to night time, he does use them at intervals during the day. And asks for them occasionally.

The way he uses the blanket, is by chewing on the corners, or sucking on them I should say...he was a very sucky baby since birth and the comfort blankets replaced irritating dummies at around 5 months.

He uses the blanket as a sleeping aid, sucking on it either calms him or sends him to sleep. Id love to continue, but worry that I need to do something about it now before its too late to break the habit.

any suggestions?
thankyou

Let him decide. I have still got my rabbit and he comes into bed when DH away on business.

DD (2.6) is very attached to her mouse. We try to limit daytime use when she is happy but she can have him when tired, upset, hurt etc.

Sorry, too innocent to get that allusion.
Actually my comforter is a hare but for some reason everyone calls it a rabbit.

It's a coping mechanism and they usually grow out of actually needing to cuddle it but just like having it around in case the world gets too much.

My Mum got rid of my rabbit cuddly toy and I have still never forgiven her, I missed the silky long ears.

Although I do have to tell you that I had a cousin who used his as a "pleasure aid" when he was a teenager, I don't know whether he now has any kinky tendancieS

thanks everyone, it appears the general consensus seems to be letting him keep it...and so I will.

My comfort thing was a stuffed cat, he lost his tail years ago but still lived on my bedside chair (unless DH saw him as he thought he looked sinister...)
He now lives on the wardrobe in DD's room to keep an eye on her!
