KIT days & SMP

Please can someone tell me what this means:

Employers are entitled to offset any contractual pay for a KIT/SPLIT day against SMP

I have been told by my HR department that I will only get paid for KIT days if I work them after my SMP has stopped.
They claim my SMP will stop if I get paid for a KIT day and are using the above quote from Maternity Rights website to back this up but I do not think it means that. Everywhere else (including other parts of that website) online states I can be paid SMP & for a KIT day at the same time.

TIA

I'm not 100% sure what it means but it's in my maternity policy too.

However, at my old workplace I was paid for a KIT day on top of SMP so I do think your employer has the wrong end of the stick. The idea of KIT days is to attend work to catch up with new practices, attend important meetings or simply catch up with colleagues so it makes no sense that they would only allow you to take them after 39 weeks have passed.

Mine says this:

"We’ll pay you for any hours worked based on your salary in addition to your SMP for that week. However this will be off set against your full time salary for the days you work within that week."

I found this on Maternity Action website. So you will be paid for a KIT day but you won't receive SMP for that week if you earn more, or it's it's less you will only get SMP up to the standard amount £145 per week

I got paid full SMP for the week and then for the day i did a KIT day they topped that day up to my full pay salary. I took them all between 6-9 months leave

Your SMP wont be stopped if you work a KIT day, they can be used at any time during ur maternity or added onto the end.

When i worked them i got a days pay rather than a days SMP. I think our HR dept said SMP works out £20 odd pound a day so i lost that but earned £80 odd for the days work/KIT day xx

I work in the NHS and my pay and conditions are set in law so cannot be varied. The NHS offset SMP against your KIT pay. I assumed that meant that you lost one day of SMP for each KIT day. Nope.
SMP is a weekly payment so you either get it all or nothing in the NHS. Private companies can pay you as much as they wish for a KIT day but if you work in the public sector check very carefully before you do any as I ended up out of pocket after expenses.
My trust now has a clear policy but at the time my manager and HR staff all interpreted it the same way as me.
Your SMP does not stop unless you work more than ten KIT days.
