Holiday with a 6-8 week old!

Hey,

So we're looking to booking a holiday for September/October time and will have a 6-8 week old baby. Just wondered anyone's experience of going away with such a young baby, we have a toddler too. Were obviously not expecting to be doing 'loads' and from what I can remember they sleep and eat most the day! In reality I know I'll be tired but my partner will help out there too - it's just a break from home and we'll be staying in this country so not to worry about traveling etc.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks Smile

Take a sling, all they want to do at that age is eat and sleep :) I travelled with ds at 9 weeks-we flew to Prague on our own. I took a huge travel system thing with me,and that is the only thing I would change-I would def have gone with a sling so I could do more stuff as the pran took up so much space and was so bloody heavy!

you probably already know this but remember babies that tiny can't spend much time in a car seat- my midwife suggested 20 minutes recently! but I think its an hour at the very most. so factor that in to travelling times wherever you're going. could you do somewhere like center parcs? they're well set up for babies as they have so many young families visiting and when I went with my 10 week old I found good baby facilities everywhere. plus I quite enjoyed strolling through the forest with the pram, and there'll be things for your toddler to do too.

I'd be a little wary about booking something non-refundable because DD was in and out of hospital for the first 10 days then had lots of appointments up to 4 weeks. At 6 weeks I was just relieved that all the toing and froing had stopped and I could finally spend some decent time at home.

DD wasn't even that ill, just jaundice and slow weight gain, both of which are fairly common.

We travelled to Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire (from Essex) when DD was 8 weeks old. It was the best holiday ever! We just spent loads of time walking, and on the beautiful beach with our dog. No toddler though!

Thanks for you all experiences :) @INeedNewShoes I did forget to add I'm going to add holiday insurance for that reason.
It all seems a blur from 2+ years ago what a newborn is like (apart from the night wakings - I remember that well)!
We are looking into a place kind of like centre parks, close to the beach tho but in woodland area so lots of walks will be on the cards! I never used a sling with DD1 but would love to with new baby (maybe easier with a toddler as well)!
