Clean pajamas?

Another daft question...

I give DS (21 mo) breakfast in his pajamas each day, so at least he doesn't start the day in grubby clothes. But then he gets his pajamas grubby, so needs clean ones each night. Am I missing something, or at what age do kids start wearing pajamas for more than 1 to 2 nights? (or is that slovenly and filthy and does everyone change theirs every night)?

I just seem to end up with interminable laundry (which is one thing my MIL has never done for me) and needing lots of sets of pajamas.

Well my DS is a naturist so he usually has his brekkie in his birthday suit and sirty PJs are not an issue here but I can remember using bibs with sleeves when he was younger.

SF, I've always changed dds' PJ's every day .. but DH wonders why. Just like that Lenor smell, 'spose

Chandra · 02/09/2004 22:46

I change them every day but just because he has eczema and is plastered in cream each night, so after just one night they look as if they have been used for a week.

dd1 has always worn jammys for a couple of day's, I thought all kids were the same when it came to clothes change, then dd2 came along. now 17 months and always filthy, needs a bath every day and gets food everywhere. You can guarantee on a lucky day where she does'nt spill/wipe hands on jammys the poo or wee will leak out a bit and get on them instead. My washing machine is permantly on!

Tommy · 02/09/2004 22:49

We started off changing them every day but I, like you SF, suddenly wondered why I was doing it so I do try and last them a couple of nights now. trouble is they sometimes end up smelling a bit wee-ey after a whole night in a nappy so it's quite often clean PJs every night here too and, yes, my washing machine works overtime too

zaphod · 02/09/2004 23:59

I have 14month old and 2 year old, and 2 nights is the maximum for pajamas. When they get to about 3 or 4 then they can wear them for longer. They do smell of wee, or else they get crusty with cereal from the morning, or the knees are grubby from crawling. Really, I prefer to change them every night.

Ghosty · 03/09/2004 00:34

My DS had clean PJs every night .... without fail!
DD only gets clean ones if her current ones have either vomit or poo on them ....
Just can't be bothered with the washing ...
Terrible mother I know - she will probably be scarred for life ... ;)

blossomhill · 03/09/2004 07:43

clean pj's every night here too!

Blu · 03/09/2004 13:26

It has never occurred to me to give DS clean pyjamas every night! 4 or 5 days, unless they are grubby or unhygenic.
Why create work?

hovely · 03/09/2004 14:06

i have to admit that dd makes such a strop about choosing her own pjs that any tops or bottoms which have only been worn one or two nights and are still looking clean go back in the drawer...
we get through every pair within a week, so I know they are all being washed enough.
she is nearly out of nighttime nappies , so often not wet.
but ds (8ms) gets clean every night, 12 hours of a nighttime nappy is enough to make anything pong.

jac34 · 03/09/2004 14:41

My DS's have clean PJ's every night, but don't really need them.
If we go away for a weekend I usually make them wear the same ones, but they do make a bit of a fuss.

enid · 03/09/2004 14:42

clean every night.

jamiesam · 03/09/2004 14:46

My dh only puts ds's in pyjamas if their (day) clothes are really dirty (but ds's sleep in gro- bags so don't need pyjama bottoms). All those lovely pyjamas wouldn't get worn if I didn't put ds's to bed too.

Prettybird · 03/09/2004 15:00

Blu - I'm glad I'm not the only one who only changed when necessary - the more nights the better !

MUMINAMILLION · 03/09/2004 15:00

Hate to say it but all 4 of mine wear a new pair of jammies every day. This is because I never got the first one out of the habit and she is now 11 and the rest have followed suit. The worst part is that, until very recently, I used to iron them all too!!!!!!!!!! What a mug.

MUMINAMILLION · 03/09/2004 15:01

Mind you, this may all stop now as my washing machine has broken down today.

Demented · 03/09/2004 15:08

DS1 gets clean PJs about twice a week, DS2 every day because they are always grotty. I iron them!

MUMINAMILLION · 03/09/2004 15:10

Well demented, I had physical withdrawal symptoms when I first stopped ironing jammies, pants, teatowels etc. And even now a part of me recoils in horror when I put them in their cupboards wrinkly, but hey, is it really such a big deal? If I dont iron them, Ive got more time to spend on here - and I do!!! (Going on holiday tomorrow and Ive said goodbye about 50 times to mn people cause I havent packed yet, but im still sitting here).

Demented · 03/09/2004 15:17

Have a nice holiday Muminamillion (and all your family). I have seen many a Mumsnetter complain that she can't pack/get away on holiday because she is having her last Mumsnet fix!

Ironed tea towels are the best! I have convinced myself they are more hygenic as the hot steam has passed through them!

moomina · 03/09/2004 15:20

Can I just ask? Are there two of these threads - or do I need a nice lie down?

MUMINAMILLION · 03/09/2004 15:21

OOps sorry. Get too embroiled in conversation and forget what the original line was.

Demented · 03/09/2004 15:23

Sorry! Never been very good at sticking to the topic.

Blu · 03/09/2004 15:26

I have never ironed a single item of DS's clothing - except a couple of 'best' shirts. I would never iron anyone' nightwear.
I hang stuff up so that it dries as uncreased as possible, and that's it!

suedonim · 03/09/2004 16:56

Getting back to pj wearing, mine had clean ones every night until they were out of night-time nappies, then they get changed every couple of days. And no, I never iron pj's!!

codswallop · 03/09/2004 17:02

yes agre that they do as babies and then grow out of it as they hit pre school aged
