Almost 8 weeks and getting distressed during the day

Hi guys unsure if this is the right place to post but I need some advice.

My son is 8 weeks old in 2 days and he is still really struggling to go for a poop. He will strain and grunt and cry for hours on end before finally going. He used to go once every 2 days and on the day he was due he would be unsettled from early morning until he went. Now he is unsettled all the time during the day, tires his little self out!
I spoke to the health visitor and gp and both have said because he is going and when he does it looks fine that it's just him learning how to go... He ends up straightening his legs and trying really hard. This morning he was fed at 9am and has been straining and grunting and often crying ever since until 10:30 when he finally fell asleep.

The bicycle legs don't seem to do anything for him nor does massaging, I have given him some water in the hopes it will get him to go, give his system a bit of a flush.

Any advice?

BF or FF?

If FF, you could carry on with the cooled boiled water. Not too much though, as it can be harmful in too large a quantity. Do ask your HV for advice regarding amount.

If BF, the milk is a natural laxative so it's very unlikely he's actually constipated and is probably just learning how to poo. Mine did something similar.

Poor thing sounds like he might be quite constipated, my little boy suffered with a bit when he was small, but the bicycle legs helped us and a bit of tummy massage. I’d go back to the GP, if he’s still struggling, to get some more advice! Sorry I can’t be of more help x

He's is FF, I have given him some water today, the health visitor didn't give an amount just said a small amount so I only give him about 10ml, 30ml max but it's very rare he will drink 30ml of water as he doesn't seem to like it very much, if need be I'll take him back to the doctor's... They seem to dismiss you if the baby is going to the toilet and it all looks ok... He gets so stressed and passes wind like a trooper when he is trying.. the annoying thing is once he has been he will settle for about an hour and then the whole process starts again.. poor little guy never gets a rest from it it seems :( can't stand seeing him struggling ...

A warm bath might help (sorry if already tried)

We are going to try that, he's finally gone but is still trying now :(

My baby was the same. She's been FF since about 6 weeks (EBF and then combi fed before). She struggled to go and the docs wouldn't take it seriously either. She was in agony for hours until she finally went every 4-5 days. Eventually at around 7 weeks the pain seemed to ease for her and she started going every other day. For the last week couple of weeks she's started going every day more or less and seems a lot happier. She's just over 11 weeks now...hopefully your little one will be the same and his pain will ease soon bless him x

In fact I could probably pinpoint the time my baby started going easier to when she had her first immunisations. Might be a coincidence but she's definitely been happier since then!

He has his on Monday, I am dreading them! He has settled now after going, I'm hoping it eases for him soon, I hate seeing him like that.. he stays awake trying to go and then gets over tired but then by the time he falls asleep he's then due for a feed.. it's a horrible cycle :(

My little girl was the same, always looked like she was in pain when passing wind or trying to go. As long as their poo looks normal then i think it is just them learning how to go, its a new sensation to them and they dont know whats going on.

My little girl improved a lot after 10 weeks and didnt strain as much when going
