My son’s 2nd birthday is coming up next month and I don’t quite know what to do.. can any other mums give me some ideas?

I did an entire family tea party last year for my son’s birthday and it was just too much too many people, so don’t want to do that again!

Both dc's 2nd birthdays were the least big events iyswim as the first is a big celebration and then the 3rd onwards they know what's going on a bit more. Ds 2nd we had a shop bought cake Shock (his 1st was an amazing hm creation) and a couple of our friends and their dc around. Dd 2nd we can't actually remember!

Maybe soft play with a few toddler friends and tea and cake (low key) for family another day?

Year one we did the family party and it was knackering! This year for her 2nd we had a family day out just the three of us to CBeebies and she loved it! Could go on every ride and although not massive with the odd 5-20 minute queue, it took up 5 hours getting round it all.

Lovely family day out

Dlah.. tell me about it! I had every family member there and it was just far too much, barely spoke to everyone as was too busy and I regret it really, too busy getting everyone drinks didn’t spend it with my son like I wanted to!

CBeebies as in CBeebies land?
How was it? I’m gonna have a think about that, good idea!

I feel last years pain! I also have family who don't speak so we're stood glaring at each end of room etc!!

Yes, sorry CBeebies land, don't get me wrong cost me and partner £33 each but we felt was worth it (you actually get full Alton towers entry too but we didn't use and you can't buy seperate), she spent the whole day smiling and saw 'Hey Duggee' live show included (3 shows through day of diff characters) which she absolutely lit up at and got to dance around with him.

The queues were manageable, one ride was 20 mins the rest 0-10.

So much nicer then we went home for cake!

Thanks Dlah! Definitely going to look into this idea - my DS loves CBeebies! If he could watch it all day he would haha

We joined up with a little bit from a group we went to, whonis a week younger than DS, abd had a soft play party. We largely had the same friends anyway.

For DS's second birthday we saw Bing Live at the theatre the weekend before, went to playgroup & out for Pizza on his actual birthday & then had lunch at our local children's bookshop with a handful of his nursery friends on the Saturday after. The bookshop let us put toys etc in their workshop space (towards the back of the shop), we pre ordered food off their normal menu, brought a cake made by a friend & all in all, with party bags & food etc it cost £5-6 per child (roughly £30 all in).

We've tended to keep things small & easier to handle, nurturing his friendships rather than ours/juggling events with family/our friends/his friends & having some kind of day out (for his first birthday we went to a Wildlife Park).

Cheerylilthing.. that sounds like a good idea too!

Thanks everyone :)
