Leaving child home alone all night

What sort of parents leave their 9 year old dd home alone all night while they party? It's not every week but every few weeks. AIBU to mind my own business?

Contact ss .... that is pure neglect!! ..... how do u know this person?

MauraIsles · 30/12/2018 20:03

I’d honestly report to social services if it was me, please don’t ignore because you think it’s not your business - there’s obviously neglect happening which needs to dealt with. Poor child having parents that put their selfish needs above his/her wellbeing!

When I was unsure about a child protection issue I phoned the nspcc helpline anonymously. They were very helpful and I followed their advice and luckily the matter was resolved.

Neglectful ones

Some of the mums were talking about it over Christmas and I was shocked and my immediate reaction was to call Social services but then I thought I'm hearing this second hand and I do not know for a fact. I feel that I should do something.

You should probably find out more before reporting - maybe the neighbour stays over with her

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 01/01/2019 04:16

If youre worried it's happening then call social services (this may add a little more to the jigsaw they know of the family). If you know it's happening at that time - eg you know 9 year is alone tonight - then you need to call police who can do a safe & well check.

How would you feel if you read the news and find something tragic has happened. Yes you should report to social services

Verbena37 · 01/01/2019 12:11

You don’t have to say you know for certain, you just have to say you’re worried about x,y,z. Social services will investigate (hopefully).
