Should you wash all new clothes for baby's before using or just put them straight on? Some say yes some say no some say it doesn't matter but I would rather get opinions and do the right thing?

Thanks Smile

Yes, I would wash them and use non bio.

Lara53 · 30/12/2018 19:29

Yes because they have the chemicals still present from manufacturing processes.

welshweasel · 30/12/2018 19:31

I never have and don’t plan to this time round either.

I would, my first was fine with unwashed new clothes, but my second has quite sensitive skin and it was quite alarming when his first outfit brought him out in a rash all over his body Sad

It's a shame because I'm rubbish at ironing so when they are new it's the only time they look pristine Grin

bourbonbiccy · 30/12/2018 20:59

Yes, I wash all my DS clothes before he wears them with all the chemicals used and god knows what else in the manufacturing.

lovely36 · 30/12/2018 22:02

Yes. I washed all my baby's stuff. Might have collected dust while sitting or hanging in the wardrobe and their skin is so sensitive. Best to be safe than sorry.

Peanut91 · 30/12/2018 22:20

Didnt bother washing any new clothes. I dont wash my own new clothes and dont really see that it is necessary unless your baby has really sensitive skin

PirateWeasel · 31/12/2018 03:35

I washed all second hand stuff but didn't bother doing the brand new bits.

DramaAlpaca · 31/12/2018 03:38

I didn't wash anything new, but did wash anything second hand.

Don't bother making extra work for yourself by washing new stuff, it really isn't necessary.

Stormblessed · 31/12/2018 04:08

I put everything through a quick wash just incase after reading something about chemicals used to protect clothes stored in a warehouse. Loads of dye came out on the colour catchers too.

antipodeanjo · 31/12/2018 05:58

Yes, it doesn't take long and newborns have very sensitive skin.

I don't bother for my own clothes or older kids.

Notquiteagandt · 31/12/2018 07:14

Having been to garment factories in the far east and bangladesh. They are filthy. Then knowing how long they spent on container ships and the pest control chemicals used on them. Id wash them.

Amimissingsomethinghere · 31/12/2018 07:28

Yes. I always have but on the one occasion I didn’t DS came out with a nasty rash.

TulipsInbloom1 · 31/12/2018 07:29

Nope. Left the tags on too until worn. That way if they were outgrown I could swap them for the next size up.

I recall washing the bits that went into the hospital bag but anything else no.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/12/2018 08:29

Yes in non bio powder

Emelene · 01/01/2019 14:30

I did in preparation for my 7 week old DD - then when she was born it all went out the window! Her skin is currently fine and I agree with leaving the labels on until needed. Smile

ThePastafarian · 01/01/2019 14:56

Never bothered. Never caused any problems.
