What do you put a baby down on on a hard floor?

Baby not yet crawling but starting to roll, tummy time etc. While we were home over Christmas he had lots of nice tummy time on people's floors (with a blanket if they were mucky) but if I put a blanket down at home it just slides all over the place and he can't get any grip to move around which frustrates him.

We have got a playpen and he can go in that but it's such a small area. I'd like to be able to put him on the floor to play sometimes, but don't want him to clonk his head/face. It's a shame, he got so good at holding his head up while we were away.

I just put them down on the floor, to be honest. As you say - a blanket makes it a lot harder, and bare knees gives them a bit more grip on the floor too, if the room is warm enough. There was the odd forehead bump, that's all. Great motivation to sweep/mop regularly!!

A large rug? You can get rug grippers to stop them moving

We have carpet but still use these. They're great and cover a large area. We use two packs.

When we had laminate floor we used a quilted rug that someone bought for the baby. It didn't seem to move around a lot. The other thing that worked was one of those wipe-clean playmats.

We put some foam tiles down for a while. Mine slipped all over the wooden floor and it saved their knees a bit when crawling too.

It's too cold really to be bare legged. I think I might look into some foam tiles, they look hideous but should do the trick. Anyone know if they fit into Kallax shelving when stacked?

The internal dimension of a kallax cube is approx. 33cm. The foam tiles from Argos are approx. 59cm each so won't fit in the kallax.

I just put mine on the wooden floor Blush

These would work with Kallax.

I had a large, clipped sheepskin for mine. That way they always had a clean, soft surface. DC1 was great; visits, parties, travelling...she’d sleep happily on it as well as playing.
