36 weeks pregnant going into crazy organising/ nesting mode and cannot get my baby brain to work this out. We had originally planned on baby sleeping in Moses basket in our room at night and moving the basket downstairs during the day for naps. Then eventually at 4/5 months moving baby to the nursery to sleep in the cot.

I’m getting in a flap about moving the Moses basket every morning, especially when DH isn’t here to help. The thought of manovering a baby and the basket and the stand is worrying me. Plus the hassle of having to move/disconnect the baby monitor How does everyone else manage? I’m looking at getting a Next2me crib for the bedroom and leaving the Moses basket downstairs permanently? Has anyone else had a similar set up?

You won't need the monitor downstairs, so that can stay put.

Baby in bouncer while you move the Moses basket.

Mumshappy · 28/12/2018 17:04

Yes i had chico next to me in the bedroom and kept the moses basket downstairs. Ds never went in the next to me for daytime naps as wanted a distinction between day and night. Once he outgrew the moses basket he has napped at home in his pram.

Santaissleepingoffmincepies · 28/12/2018 17:05

We had moses basket upstairs and baby swing /chair thing and pram downstairs.
When dh had ds alone he napped on the floor!! Still did as a toddler, grabbed a cushion and lay down, asleep instantly!!

Why would the monitor need to move?

Pop baby in bouncer/ on a blanket on the floor whilst you move Moses basket.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 28/12/2018 17:07

As pps said. Also, assuming you'll mostly be in the same room as the baby, you won't need a monitor for the early months. Good luck!

ps1991 · 28/12/2018 17:09

We have a monitor that has the under mattress pad bit so wouldn’t that need to be disconnected? I do have a baby bouncer for downstairs but also have a dog so I’m trying to avoid circumstances where baby will be on it’s own in dogs reach :(

I wouldn't bother moving the monitor, you should here them if they are on the same floor

abcriskringle · 28/12/2018 17:16

We used moses basket upstairs and the bassinet on the pram downstairs.

jumperoonie · 28/12/2018 17:17

Had the exact set up you've described, next to me crib and Moses basket downstairs. The idea of moving a huge Moses basket daily up and down the stairs. Huge faff

E20mom · 28/12/2018 17:17

We used a sleepyhead in the lounge. It was amazing.

Santaissleepingoffmincepies · 28/12/2018 17:19

Baby gate and you can leave baby on one side, ddog on other when necessary.

MustBeAWeasly · 28/12/2018 17:22

We brought a crib for the living room. For the first 5 months dd slept In the living room with us (to be fair for the first three months she would only sleep in the sling) and we had a next to me by the bed. At 5 months she refused to sleep downstairs so we just put her down for naps upstairs with a video monitor and a breathing monitor because I'm paranoid.
They should sleep in your room every night for 6 months. Though 7 months now and we have no intention of moving her out of our room anytime soon.

PoutySprout · 28/12/2018 17:22

Baby should be with an adult wherevert hey are sleeping for the first 6 months. Babies tend to like being held whilst sleeping, especially during the first trimester (google it).

Never had a Moses basket. Mine slept on me for 4 months, then in a baby hammock/in bed with me and then into a cot/in bed with me at about 10 months.

Don’t buy loads. You have no idea what your baby will need.

Fantababy · 28/12/2018 17:25

I'm in Scotland so hoping to use my baby box for downstairs sleeping and Moses basket for night time. But we'll see.

With DD1 I just lifted the baby in the basket - generally left the stand upstairs during the day.

jent85 · 28/12/2018 17:33

Same re:baby box for us. Kept the Moses basket upstairs (which incidentally she only stayed in for approx 2 months) and had the baby box downstairs which has been a lifesaver! Baby box was free (paid £4 p&p I believe) so not splashing out and still use it 3 months on for daytime naps, etc xx

SoyDora · 28/12/2018 17:39

40 weeks with my third. We have a next to me crib upstairs and a cheap Moses basket for downstairs this time. I just had one Moses basket that I carried up and down stairs for the first 2 and it was fine (we also have a dog).
Why will you need a monitor in the Moses basket? The baby should sleep in the same room as you to start with so no need for a monitor for a while. That will make it easier. We haven’t even bought a monitor yet.
