Do you think that I'm feeding a lot my son?

My son is 6.5 months and I started giving him puree fruit and veggies when he was 5.5 months. He is showing interest in food and he likes everything until now. I’m giving him twice a day, morning puree fruit and then evening time around 4pm puree veggie. It’s around 3.5-4 oz each feed. He has constipation almost 3 weeks, his poos is very small pellets and he is trying to push really hard. I spoke with health visitors they said it is normal in the beginning it will get better. They didn’t suggest me to cut down food, they even suggested me 3 meal a day. Today I spoke with one friend and she told me that I’m giving lot of food for my son, that he needs only one meal and the rest only breastfeeding. She told me that probably of too much food my son has constipation. Is she right what do you think is it a lot of food for this age? She suggested me to cut evening meal.

Sounds about right food intake wise. For the constipation, have you tried Ella's kitchen prune pouches. Always worked quickly with baby ds

Yes I tried and I'm using very often but surprisingly they are not working for my son. I gave him this morning as well and he is trying to push really hard but only few small rabbit pellets are coming.

He's probably impacted by now.

That makes the bowel stretch and harder to push.

Lay him on his back and rub his tummy. Cycle his legs. Maybe try something like lactulose (check age). He's need to be going regularly to get the stool moving easily again. And bowel to shrink back.

Food sounds right.

Would he chew on some cucumber or something that's also got lots of water in?

I think you need to go to the gp. If it was my child I would stop the food for a bit until it’s sorted.

Ok thank you for your advice. I will stop the food these the next 2 days, I will only breastfeeding him and on Monday morning I will go to gp.

I’m giving him prunes puree very often but it’s not helping. I gave him this morning and all day he is trying to push and only small rabbit pellets are coming, small balls size like fingernails. Don’t know where is my mistake, i feed him combination of apples, prunes, plums, pears, peaches, appricots, avocados, carrots, parsnips, butternut squash, sweet potato, zucchini, also i cut down bananas and baby rice because i read they are making babies constipated. I tried oat porridge once as well but I don't want to try more food until the constipation is improved. The last week I’m giving him more fruits, pears, prunes. I’m making also more watery but still constipation is not improving. I'm la bit surprised from health visitors, they advised me feed him 3 times and to introduce more food, more variety of veggies and also joghurt, chicken, cheese, eggs, more porridge...and lot of other things. She said fruit is not a meal and i need to increase food and decrease milk. She wasn't consern about constipationand she said only it's normal. I'm first time mum and I'm worried, my son used to poop 3-4 times per day, and now last 3 weeks he is struggling. Best thing is definitely to go visit gp on Monday and these few days i will brestfeed him.

I would completely remove banana and baby rice all together from his diet and reintroduce a small amount of banana when he is much older.

I would ring 111 and get him check out by an out of hours GP. Monday is a long time away.

My son did this, I think it was just his bowels getting used to food, we did the same thing, cut out banana and porridge temporarily. We weaned at 5 months and he was on 3 meals a day (3rd of a jar with desert after each one other than breakfast) This gradually Increased to half a jar then a whole one.
