5 week old - is this diarrhoea or normal

My five week old over the past week has started doing these runny poos - pic attached, sorry if TMI. He’s doing these twice a day now and the full the nappy, but the rest of the time, he’s peeing fine and poos about the same as a 50p piece.

Is it the start of diarrhoea and should I see a GP or totally normal?

Is he breast or bottle fed?

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 27/12/2018 05:06

My breastfed baby had exactly the same, totally normal, but no experience of formula fed I'm afraid.

Also he may only poo every couple of days from now on, but they might be very full nappies when he does! There's a huge range of colours of poo so don't worry if it is goes more yellow or green, as long as feeding is going well.

They start going longer between poos and the poos get bigger - more milk more poo!

You ain't seen nothing yet. Wink Grin

He’s mostly breast fed, occasionally expressed milk or formula by bottle so my husband can do a night feed.

So this isn’t diarrhoea? It’s just extremely runny and it’s my first baby so wanted to be sure xx

No that's normal until they eat solids, when the poo gets more solid.

pastabest · 27/12/2018 08:29

In my experience (2 breastfed DC) it stays very runny until they start on solids.

TeaAndNoSympathy · 27/12/2018 08:31

Poo in babies will be extremely runny as they’re not eating anything solid. Totally normal. If your baby had diarrhoea then stools will be green and watery - that’s how you can tell.

But please put a warning in your title that there’s a picture of a used nappy!

donajimena · 27/12/2018 08:32

Oh yes mine used to explode up their backs. Be prepared. Nothing contains a poonami.

FestiveNut · 27/12/2018 08:33

No, ours was like that for months. Went through a stage where every single time it escaped the nappy so we had to do a full change of outfit. Made me really reluctant to go out with her unless she'd already pooed that day. And sometimes she'd go a couple of days without pooing and then do three the same day to make up for it. We had three poonamis in two hours one memorable trip out! Enjoy! Grin

I agree with this one you have the point.
